Root Rooting the 2.1 OTA

its the same steps posted in the sticky. going from 1.5 to root is the same process as OTA to root.

i understand that but do i go thru the whole thing or do i skip a bunch of steps? do i still need the sdk, do i need the recovery, can i use any rom i want?

its the exact same process. you need to follow all the steps. if you already have the sdk tools then obviously you dont need to download them again, but follow all the steps that apply.

and yes, you will be able to use any rom you want

so just so I got this right, I have a new 1.5 eris and want to update the OTA 77.7 mb. If I do this I can still root this phone? Please Help.

Yes but you dont need to update to the ota if you are going to flash a dif rom. Save yourself some time and root then find a 2.1 rom you like and use that. Evil eris, aloysius and senseable are some of the recommended.

YES you CAN. You will be able to root to your heart's desire. See jcase's post above. He is one of the guys who is heavily involved in the developing scene and you can read what he says as pretty much on. Unless he decides to screw around with people, which he should. :)

Ok thank you, so as I understand this there 2 methods to root then. The all in one method which seems easier but seems to be limited to non outside Rom installation and I guess limited tons. Or

Or there's the hboot pbimage method, ask etc...

So which appears to be the best route to root this phone?

Please help I'm anxious to root. Ps thanks MJL

use the master application for rooting. probably the easiest way. once you are finished with that find a rom you like, save it to your root of your sdcard and boot into recover = vol up + pwr. choose flash from sdcard and youre set after that.

There is only one method right now, all the "all in one" scripts and apps just automate the process.

Thanks guys I will use the master application to root later today. As long as it doesn't hinder the process I will update to my system ota waiting for me on my found first. I'm not crazy about 1.5.

If I wanted to root the 2.1 OTA but not use a custom ROM (just use the OTA 2.1) would I just flash the PB00IMG and skip loading a custom ROM, or do I have to load a custom rom to be rooted?

Any rooted ROM is "custom" to an extent, but I know what you are saying. You just want the stock 2.1 OTA. Make sure that you use the rooted one and not the leaked one or you will find yourself screwed out of root altogether.

Where can I find the rooted OTA 2.1 rom?

HELP !! I am new to forum,I have 2.1v3 leaked and I am getting error message when I try to go through boot loader to load off sd card. E:can't open/cache/recovery/command Install from sd card ... finding update package... opening update package... verifying update package... E:failed to open/sd card/update zip(no such file on directory)E: signature verification failed installation aborted with a triangle and a exclamation mark half in triangle and half out all in red bold. Any one have any ideas !!!

What are you trying to load off of the card? If you are trying to root the phone, and are on the leaks, it cannot be done as of yet. Nor, as of yet, can you flash the OTA onto the phone if you are on the leaks.

Guys, I think I can settle some confusion here. If you want to be rooted but still want to be as close as possible to the official 2.1 OTA (but with root access) instead of something totally custom, you should root according to the directions in the sticky, and then install jcase's ROM that's based on "leak v3" (which is the 4th leaked file). Look for a ROM called "leak4rombase.zip" from jcase, that's the one you want.

Oh, and make sure you get the newest radio too, since (I believe) you'll be downgrading the radio when you root.

As far as I know, the radio and all files, except HBOOT, are the same in 2.1v3 and 2.1OTA. That's why v3 can't be rooted as of yet, because HBOOT is different.

So basically, if someone gets the OTA, even if they were rooted before, the HBOOT would change and they could Root?

ok im kinda pissed right now when i do the hboot method my fone goes all the way through but it doesnt says "update now"
it just says "main version older"
im soooo cornfuzed as to what iv done or what i need to do
