Official HTC Hero 2.1 Update now (5/19) on Sprint.com

For those looking for a download for the latest HTC Sync which includes support for Win 7, I just downloaded it from Softpedia. I am at work and haven't tried yet, but I downloaded in 10 seconds compared to the 2 hours HTC was showing me. It looks legit, so its worth a try.

Download HTC Sync 2.0.33 - Easily synchronize your HTC Magic, HTC Hero, HTC Tattoo, HTC Legend & HTC Desire - Softpedia

For the guy above looking for a faster HTC Sync download...I downloaded this in 2 min and it looks to be the latest version.

Er.... the Droid has a processor with way newer architecture. It's also got a dedicated graphics thing with it... (not entire sure how it works with the processor) as well as more RAM and I'm fairly sure more ROM space and whatnot for applications and what have you. Sense UI is nice, but yes it does help to bog down the phone a bit.

Finally, someone who understands that this is one of the many low end android phones! I got a long nasty message on Youtube because I commented on a video saying about how the Hero is now a low end android phone, and got about a page and a half message explaining to me, in botched english, about how the Hero is a quality phone and is in no way shape or form a low end device. Sorry to say, but even as much as I love this phone, it's still a low end device in the Android spectrum.

Well, I'm not sure I'd call the Hero "low end", quite yet. In the full spectrum of smartphones that are in use today, and certainly in the spectrum of cell phones, it sits well up in the 90th percentile.

It sure isn't the top of the line anymore, but neither will the EVO or Incredible be 9 months after their release.

Lots of the stuff people complain about not having didn't exist last October when the Hero was released. Live wallpapers certainly didn't. Shoot, when I got my Hero, there were barely any apps in the market, let alone worthwhile ones.

Android is brand new, and the potential is unlimited. Software and hardware advances are going to fly by, making any piece of hardware seem archaic compared to what's available now (whenever now is).

The Hero did all it was promised to do (well, save for a few bugs) when I bought it. It did even more than that as new apps were developed. It did even more when root became possible and as ROMs were cooked. Now, it runs 2.1. It does virtually everything an iPhone does for a fraction the total cost of ownership (do live wallpapers even exist for the iPhone? Oh, wait, the iPhone can't even have static wallpapers ;)). Maybe it's not the fastest, or the shiniest, and it may never get another OS upgrade (except from the devs at xda) but it's far from a useless relic in my eyes.

As for the Droid from Motorola, it may have a souped up architecture, but it has its own set of problems, and the wish list for what Droid owners want and need is every bit as long as ours. And, in 3 weeks when the EVO and Incredible launch, my guess is you'll start hearing Droid owners groan about how underpowered and feature lacking their phones are. It's the way of the world, nothing stays new very long anymore.

Does anyone know how to turn the location on without the GPS on, eating up the battery. I know you could of done this on 1.5.

Bleh, it's for 32 bit OS. Can't use it here.

FoodMan...2.0.33 supports Win 7 x32 and x64...and it states it right there on that page.

It was the link that the guy posted for the mirror of it, the version that was posted was only for 32 bit OS. The one straight off the HTC site is both 32 and 64, yes. Although, I just tried downloading from the Europe mirror (1) and I'm getting speeds over 300kb/s, just FYI. Might want to try those if the US ones are still not working.

Menu>settings>location all your options will be there. Gps uses less battery than mobile network, though....

Can someone give specific information on this item? What is different? Does it support pin-lock and remote data wipe?

*Includes enhanced corporate email support*

Thanks!

Anyone? Bueller? Thanks  I couldn't find any specifics, release notes, etc.

I've been reading reports of problems with Bluetooth with the upgrade.

Anyone able to shed any light on what those problems are?

After all of this, if BT is funky, I won't be upgrading.

How does that make sense if rooted phones are able to have live wallpapers.

Maybe I'm not understanding since I've yet to root, but it's still the same hardware on the phone correct? You mean HTC and Sprint couldn't figure out a way to get them but Jimmy on Windows 95 can?

that's weird, because when i went to HTC's site it was a 2 hr download, so I went to the sprint site, found this link, and downloaded the file in 10 minutes...

Just to be sure, i went back and did it again, 11 minutes... try this:

Is this for the 2.1 update? I need a link to HTC Sync that isn't blocked by work and the big eye in the sky... Softpedia, and meganuts have been blocked all day, and Sprint must have taken down the "Download" link for HTC Sync. I've only been able to load the HTC sites link to HTC Sync.

Not sure if this has been answered or not so I apologize if it has BUT... I know that the software version for the official release and the leak from last week are the same, but has anyone been able to play around with it long enough to notice if there are any differences at all? I installed the leak over the weekend and still noticed a lot of lag in certain applications, especially text messaging. Are there any improvements, or would I basically be reinstalling what I already have???

Yep...there's an issue with BT....It works when you call out, but when you get calls it doesn't work at all......
