so today i had a vanilla cake with apple filling. WholeFoods called it a apple pie cake, and they were not kidding. it had all of the profiles of an apple pie, but it was a cake. it was soooooo goooood.

because who likes pecan or sweet potato? not me LOL

Oh, that's probably because--unlike me--you've never lived in the south! There wasn't much I liked about Texas, but I must say I had EXCELLENT pecan pie and sweet potato pie there. :D

We actually had several pecan trees in our yard...but we let the squirrels feast on them. :)

i have had them both. and meh, i guess it depends on who makes them.....lol

I'm a fan of pecan pie as well. I like fruit pies okay but I'm big on sweet potato, pumpkin, and pecan. Actually, I'm a bigger cake fan than a pie fan.
I love them all! Boysenberry pie is a favorite of mine, as is blueberry. But apple, cherry, pumpkin, pecan, pretty much any fruit pie will do. I love cake, too, but pie is easier to veganize than cake. :)

Yeah, I'm convinced that you just haven't had the right ones yet. I could seriously eat a whole pecan pie by myself! [And then not eat another calorie for a week...] Ditto for sweet potato pie.

Since you're local: have you tried pecan pie at Marie Callender's? I'm guessing it would be good, although I don't recall trying it myself. Just a thought. :)

Many years go.. likely 40.. we got on a kick of buying frozen blueberry turnovers. They had a sugar glaze package you thawed and drizzled over the turnovers once they were baked. They were oh so good! Just the right amount of crust per filling, crisp, and not too sweet. No idea the brand now and I've purchased a couple of samplings through the years since that were off the mark. I miss those blueberry turnovers.

Peacan and pumpkin pie for me, had a distant realative picked out some from Chicago area, and we noticed the same restraunt was down here a bit ago, I think it shut down. But we do have several locations of picking up a pie here and then, remember this delicious chocolate tripple layered whip cream, that taste like velvet :) A ton of great thanksgiving memories of my family, started off of having one year, of where nearly around from end to end of my living room up against the cabinet it is now, just we have one of those tables that can extended, and remember helping my mother getting set up.

Fun dessert story from tonight.
My nephew likes to cook and bake so he decided to make the pies, apple and pumpkin. He has challenges and can't read so well and my sister stocks up on on the pie filling cans. She also gets just straight up pumpkin (cans). Yup, you guessed it! He grabbed the not filling can and made pie with nothing added. Nothing, nada, zilch, zero anything! Luckily he has a good sense of humor and a fun Thanksgiving tale for years to come.
And yeah - apple pie for win!

when i was younger, my family spent thanxgiving in Montana where my unlce lived. i remember that they had they best boysenberry pie. it was made fresh where the berries were picked right outside of my uncle's cabin. i have yet to find any berry pie that came close to that.

I haven't had it in years, but what about Knott's Berry Farm's boysenberry pie? If my California history serves me, the boysenberry was invented here in SoCal, and the Knott family had some part in it. I always have a jar of their boysenberry preserves in my fridge--it's the closest I've been able to come to their awesome pie in a while! :D

i have rarely been to Knott's save for their Knott's Scary Farm and even then i never had their pies. i do remember their jams, but thats about it. plus i doubt that it would be better then my uncle's berry pies.
