Something to keep in mind... If a threat is detected there really is no good reason to wait until there is an actual confrontation. Most thieves are after goods they can easily liquidate. Not knowing what might be had for the taking at a given residence, they aren't likely to risk a gun wound for whatever. Shoot a hole in your floor. The gun report will most often be unexpected, respected, and send the bad guy scurrying.
It's easier for most to pull the trigger when it's not pointed at someone. And with a revolver, you most likely have five more rounds for that groin shot if necessary.
I'd agree with you, except for one thing--and I'm sure you're aware of this too: some people, fueled by certain drugs, obtain super-human power, and a gunshot to the floor--or probably even to their foot--wouldn't stop them. I absolutely agree that shooting a living being (human or otherwise) would be very, very difficult for me, but in that situation, I think my own adrenaline would kick in enough to make it possible. I wouldn't want to kill them and have to live with that on my conscience, but I would want to stop them AND make a really good, long-lasting point, like "you did something bad, now pay for it!" :o

Also, if the dude ran off without being shot, there's much less chance of catching him--and he belongs in jail, not free where he can pull this on someone else.

Hopefully, this will never, ever happen.

When I had my beautiful, protective Great Danes, plus a monitored alarm system, I felt very safe. Now we have our 15-year-old mutt who weighs about 50-ish pounds and wouldn't hurt a fly. (Of course, my Great Danes wouldn't either, but at almost 200 pounds, they LOOKED so intimidating, no one wanted to take a chance.) Between her and the alarm, I'm not sure how scared a seasoned and/or determined burglar would be!

You must do what you are most confident in having success at for sure. No argument but merely my contribution. I hope that you can perform under such a situation and utmost, I hope that situation never occurs.

Speaking of your Danes.. I bet you would be surprised at how they might have reacted if you were threatened. Dogs are keen to threats and a cat is like I hope whoever is left standing knows how to open a can of tuna. :)

Understood. :)

My all-time favorite Dane-related story has to do with a family I knew years ago. They heard their dog barking and growling one night, and came running down the stairs to see what was going on. He had the *LEG* of a burglar in his mouth, through the open window, and refused to let go! He broke it. The leg. He only released when his parents pulled him off--after the police arrived. Take that, burglar dude! :D

Honestly, based on that, I always felt confident that in a crisis situation, my Danes would protect me like that, too. Luckily, I never had occasion to find out.

and a cat is like I hope whoever is left standing knows how to open a can of tuna. :)
Not mine!!!! :p

the bullets are stored separately,

We've agreed that should a burglar get in, whichever one of us gets to the gun first will aim right.....smack........at his GROIN.

What cha gonna do, throw it at him ?

May as well have one of these :

Nah, we both have very good aim. If we WANT to shoot his... *cough* ... MANHOOD, we will! :o

The thing about the bullets, that's purely for peace of mind. I don't want a loaded gun in my house. There are no children or anything like that, but still, too many accidents happen for my liking. But we both know where the bullets are and can easily get to them, quickly. Hopefully we'll never need to!

Last week I finally upgraded my Internet speed. Turns out the plan I had was so old, it was grandfathered in--and isn't even available any more! :o

Now I have 200/?? -- I say ?? for upload because the guy on the phone really wasn't sure; he guessed it would be around 18; I told him anything 8 or above would be fine. My speed tests show consistent speeds of 230/12, so I'm good to go now. I just need to figure out exactly what I want and get ADT out here to install it.

Funny story, since we're talking technology: my LANDLINE went out last week. First time ever. AT&T came out and found that squirrels had apparently gnawed through a cable up on the pole! Everything's good now. :)

Had a similar situation a few years ago with our land line. It wasn't out, but the call quality was so poor it sounded like listening to sirens with tinnitus. ;) They found a whole bunch of corrosion in a box i would guess nobody had opened for 20 years.
That's the thing about real, hardwired, traditional landlines: they just work! No need to be meddled with very often.

The best thing about my landline being down for a few days was NO SPAM CALLS!! For some reason, my cell number does not get bombarded by spam/scam/robocalls, but my landline! OMFG. All day long....

so i just bought Cafe Specialty drip coffee which has wifi so that i can google assist it and have it make coffee whenever i want by command.

and then i also bought Ember Temp controlled smart mug. it has an app where you can control the temp and have the mug keep your coffee warm to the temp you like for 3 hours.

so my coffee is now part of my smart home network....LOL

Now, in these times of technology, I like everything about the smart home. Smart lamps, electric kettles, blinds windows, smart TVs and other technologies. It's very cool that it's all easy to install and very easy to manage. It's easy enough to have an app on your smartphone. It's enough to start or stop a particular appliance or function.

Do you have any suggestions?

Does anyone else have a problem with Alexa (aka "Bimbo in a Can") lying about completing a task? I have the app set so Alexa just gives a little tone to indicate that the routine was accomplished... like "Alexa, lights up". This routine turns on our Hue lights in the den at 50% brightness. All too often, though, we get the little "I did it" tone - but it wasn't done! I may tell Alexa to turn off a light and it will straight-up LIE and let me know it's off, when I'm looking at the thing and it's still on! Sometimes it takes three commands on a row to get Bimbo to actually DO what I tell it to do!

If you have found a fix for this (other than a bullet), kindly let me know. Thanks!
