Root, if you feel up to it... It is not known if sprint will disable the native tethering for 2.2, but it is highly likely, so I don't know that waiting for it will work to your advantage...

So I'll be able to root and have no fee hotspot when I get it right ? Sorry I'm new to Android. Also will Swype be included? Thanks

I think he's in the passenger seat too. As far as boot goes, as long as it starts up faster than the pre...I'm gonna be ecstatic.

He's not in the passenger eat, as you can tell where he was pointing the camera, the camera was on the left of us, the viewers, meaning it is reversed when he should have pointed to the right. He even mentions it himself that its reversed.

Correct. Here is the description, for those of us not too lazy to actually go to youtube for it... lol
" This is a test of HTC EVO 4G camera test. Taken with the phone's front-facing camera. For some reason, camera records backwards (I'm actually in the driver's seat in the US when this is recorded). "

That's the going idea... It has already been rooted, and instructions should be out in the wild shortly after the fourth... Swype is not included somewhere over at XDA, I got close, i'm sure you can do the rest of the finding... CLICK HERE TO GET SWYPE.

My concern is that it's being marketed in kind of the wrong way...or that people will have to rethink the way they view their phones and data connections.

Too many people think of Wimax as just "faster internet/data" and are disappointed when it drains battery a bit or isn't as fast as they dreamed.

The way you ought to look at Wimax is like a Wifi hotspot that pretty much blankets your whole city. It may not always be super fast but chances are if you are in a city covered by Wimax and you need to do something data intensive, you will turn on your Wimax radio, do your thing, and then turn it off...much the way you do with Wifi on any other smart phone. Typically you don't leave it running if it's sitting in your pocket because there is no point. You only fire up Wifi or Wimax when you need to stream a video or browse the web or whatever.

If they advertised it more as access to a citywide hotspot rather than a faster version of what they are used to, I think people's expectations will be a little more realistic. Not only that but they can focus on this aspect when talking about the $10 "premium" data fee. Imagine advertising it as "and for only $10 per month, you have access to every Sprint city-wide hotspot across the US."

Instead, you're going to get thousands of people leaving it on all day and then flooding the media with reports of crap battery life, etc.

You're right, I never thought of that myself. Thanks for this post. I will do exactly what you say!

Is there a way to set automatic settings on the Evo? I'd like settings for the following situations: 1) All-on for leaving everything on when I want to demo or rapidly access every possible app and tool. 2) Primary Mobile - mostly phone and 3G features when out of Wimax range. 3) Wimax and multimedia only - yes there are times when I'd prefer to just be able to shut off the phone. 4) Audio Features only - calls, music player, and streamed music only with no need for screen.

I know it's been said you can manipulate settings individually, but can it be done in a one-button macro-type setting?

Sounds like (3) is airplane mode, and there's a widget for that; (4) is screen off, and there's a widget for that, too. Right?

Don't know - I'm not an Android phone user until I get my Evo. Just wondering if profiles can be set up so I don't have to do a lot of button pushing.

On my PCs, I have different user profiles that I use based on what I want when traveling. It does help with battery length. Also gives me a little comfort knowing I can hand it over to one of my young nephews for use with a setting set up for them that blocks certain activities, functions, and doesn't give them access to accidentally mess up any of my data or turn on anything that shouldn't be turned on. Took a while to set them up, but now it's just automated based on who logs on.

Not natively. There might be a 3rd party app/widget that'll allow you to control & toggle more settings with a single switch. You'll have to research that one further.

Sense let's you have different user profiles. I plan on having mine set up like a mullet...business in the front and party in the back

Thanks. That may be what I want. Having not actually used Android yet, I'm not even sure how to describe it. I cannot get exactly what I want with an iPhone so it's one of the reasons I never got an iPhone.

When I went to the Apple store to get info, the response was "Why would you want to do that? I mean, it's pretty much set up the way you should use it all the time anyway."

I told them, "How about I buy an iPhone with just pennies? I mean, it's pretty much the same actual value as a credit card transaction but just a little heavier and less convenient for you to deal with until you get it deposited." They laughed. Then they reminded me that I could only buy iPhone back then via credit card anyway.

I've since then made at least one purchase of an accessory with only change and during holiday seasons when I know they really don't want to deal with it. Not when lines are long, but at times when I know they don't want to put bags of coins in registers.:D

I just started a thread, that got moved to the lounge....

WebOs designer is leaving Palm, possibly for Google.

This is huge if he lands up there....almost a dream, if he can bring the UI for Android up to anything close to WebOs.

Put that on the EVO's hardware, and it could be the greatest phone created.

This is now CONFIRMED per Engadget.....I just got happier.

I don't have android now so I have not tested these but I saw a few on appbrain: quick settings, toggle settings, and setting profiles. From what I saw setting profiles was gps based but it sounded kind of cool.

I like the desk clock!!!

hi.png

me too, where you find desktop clock like this ?

LOL...It needed the # in front of it...well, that's how I got it to find the part anyway.

I did find this part but it is not specific at all. It doesnt tell you what your ordering, just the part number and price. I would rather speak to someone from their end and verify what i was ordering, so i called. I waited 25 minutes listening to the hold music and nobody answered. I left a voicemail.....

The way I feel about this is personally I wouldn't root my phone to get this free becuase I'd rather support Sprint and keep our prices down. I'm no angel, but there are certain things I will definatly pay for if I feel strongly enough about it... just me $0.02

<<me too, where you find desktop clock like this ?>>

On my Hero with 2.1 there is an app called Deskclock. It gives you a floating clock with date that moves around like a screensaver and it you tap it you get a full screen clock and weather screen like the one above. The one on the Hero does not show the city for some reason.
