Yup unfortunately it's true if you want to video chat over Qik :( The charge comes monthly from Qik themselves (their decision), not Sprint.

Fring is free though and allows Skype video calls with an official client from Skype themselves coming later this year.

That's ridiculous. $5 per month? Really? No thank you. I'll use Fring, thankyouverymuch.
 
So I'm really not trying to beat a dead horse here... And believe me this horse has been shot, run over, and backed over several times but on the $10 EVO charge.... I read all these posts about how people called and asked for the account credit and I really wasn't sweating the $10 at all, like the rest of you I was accepting it as the cost of having 4g as well as 3g being uncapped. That said, I figured it couldnt hurt to call because after all not calling at all is like leaving money on the ground as your walking by. I called and didnt say "hey I know about the $10 credit", I didnt ask for retentions, and I also didnt ask for the credit at all. I simply called *2, chose the option for service disconnection and when the person came on the line, I asked how much it would be to cancel my service early. They asked why and I said that although I was very interested in the EVO, I was still torn between it and the iphone and that my friend informed me I would be paying an extra $10 for it per month. I said that I dont live in a 4g city, I shopped at&t's plans and that after my employer discount from them (lie), it would be cheaper for me to get the iphone than the EVO with the extra $10. After trying to just persuade me out of leaving by telling me the Evo's specs and what 4g will do for me when I get it she offered the $10 for 24 months. Again I know its a hassle but just so you people on the fence are aware, they will do this for you. Also.. Be nice. Again I'm sorry for backing over the poor horse again but I just want all my fellow forum members to save money with me :)

i paid 50.00 straight for gift card and went here for tax caculation :

it said nyc tax is 13.31 and brought everything to total cost of 163.31 is this how much my evo will cost me when i goto pick it up or did i caculate wrong can some 1 help me
I believe that is wrong, going through the site and actually choosing new york city it shows the following...
The city of New York City in New York County, New York has a local sales tax of 4.50%, a Metropolitan Commuter Transportation Distric (MCTD) sales tax rate of 0.375% and a uniform state sales tax rate of 4.00% for a total sales tax rate of 8.875%

Did you go to David's Sprint store? I wanted to go there and see if they had an Evo so my friends can play with it and convince them it's the truth.

Yup it was at his store. Biggest cell phone store I've ever been to and boy was it busy. The place will be a madhouse on the 4th.
 
Well just got back from the Sprint store setting up my account. I asked to see the EVO but he said it was out at the time. The rep was very knowledgable, he told me about the $5 Qik charge and told me about Skype capability on Fring (without me even asking). They had two EVOs at the store in the morning and they had them video chatting on Skype through Fring.

I did get some hands-on time with the black Body Glove case and it was pretty nice. It was hard and felt like plastic to me but I'm not sure. It's a two piece case with the front plate that detaches. It was fairly slim considering. I'm sold and will be picking one up at launch with my EVO :)

Does it help keep the camera lens off of what ever surface your using... and is it thin enough not to make the already wide phone wider...

Indeed... I've been doing this for years. I never pay full price for almost anything. Companies have it built in to their services to barter.... I personally will never pay full price for anything unless I beleive in it or I have no choice. I use Gamefly... no haggle... no choice. Comcast major discounts... Sprint.... God know's how many discounts at least $65 a month off....

how long does everyone think it will take before qik does away with that charge to compete with other free apps...i think it won't last a month

In all honesty Qik didn't even seem that great when it was free.. it was just an awesome feature and showed promise. Now they think there the big cheese and want to charge.... hey more power to Qik. However, I'll be crossing over onto the Fring side. Not only did the video's look better, it's free... Bad move Qik....:rolleyes:

I honestly can't tell you about the camera lens but it is very thin, the case isn't bulky. I know the Seidio protects the lens according to shadrap and it's fairly small. If you have doubts they'll have them at Sprint stores to check out for launch :) that is if they don't get sold out quickly lol.

I'm with you, i don't see them making much revenue with that fee because I just don't see people coughing it up when there are alternatives.

Darn, guess I should have gone with the iphone slant. I was shut down by retentions today for any discounts, and that was with 4 lines out of contract ready to move to Verizon for better coverage. I'm not persuasive enough I guess.

one note:

you cannot get the $10 off for 24 months on the simply everything plan. you have to get a cheaper plan than the unlimited voice/data plan to get this.

Not sure, definitely not the morning. Probably around 12.

I was trying to get a discount on the 1500min everything family plan ($155 including evo's $10 and empoyer discount), coming from an old family plan with data added to one line ($115 total). The other 3 lines won't use data at all, so the big jump in price for the new plan amounts to a $40/mo evo tax for my line.

(prices before taxes/surcharges)

Cause the jawbone icon was in the picture too and I just bought it tonight with a 15 dollar off coupon for Best Buy. But it's not worth driving all over to return and rebuy for 10 bucks. And my store may not even carry it. I want the 14.99 silicone one.

I want a Slingbox now! Anyone have one? If so can I PM you some questions?

i have a slingbox and have been using it for years. haven't ever connected to it from a mobile device, only from a PC and mac. feel free to PM with questions.

Not putting any hate on you, or any one else that chooses to get the 10 dollar fee removed.

But I don't mind paying the extra 10 dollar add-on at all. And it's still cheaper than Verizon and other providers. You're getting a true "unlimited" data plan, with no caps on 3G NOR 4G. Which is a very good deal for people who use a lot of data, especially now that websites are starting to optimize their sites for android, as stated in the few previous posts. Also paying this 10 dollar add-on will help out with the 4G roll-out/deployment costs. The way I see it is, the more people not minding the $10 add-on fee, the faster the coverage will expand. The more people not paying for it, the longer it will take for 4G coverage to expand, which in return means customers will get pissed off because they wont have 4G for so many months.

Just my 2 cents.
