Droid navigation woman has got to go

My first test of the nav using the window mount went flawlessly but the voice is incredibly grating. Google please give us a nice aussie or brit or even a smooth talking southerner. Probably the only feature I like about Garmin is the voices.

speaking of window mount. It comes with a stick on plate for your dash if you need it. No car charger which I thought was included.

How about a rapper? An Asian FOB? They should have every type of voice possible... But they won't. I think the woman's voice should just be less robotic.

You are lucky. I had some very strange experiences and weird routes. I can see wht it is still in beta! My comments below:

i had the same problem with weird routing yesterday. on a 20 mile trip that i do occasionally it wanted me to take city-streets instead of the highway which is way faster.

This is exactly why it's still in beta. They've got 100,000 users bug testing the hell out of it, and that will mean a quicker "gold" release w/o those issues.

I do agree though. Having a regular GPS (which I only use on long trips) and its solid voice setup the lady just doesn't cut it. But I'll take a free GPS on phone that I don't have to remember anything additional except the car charger.

I thought I saw a video...I think it might've been Phandroid, explain that you can change the voices. He was joking how he complained about the annoying female voice and then found that out shortly there after.

I was going through Islip on the way to my destination the other day. Now, Islip is pronounced ICE-lip. When the navigation told me to get off the highway and go to is-LEEP I started laughing hysterically. Said in that robotic voice it just sounded so odd.

The voice was one of the first things I search to try to change! There are MUCH better accents/voices, etc out there. But the voice isn't all that bad, I mean it's a nav, not your personal massage parlor :D

they should put chuck norris as a choice.

"make a left up here, and if you dont, you will be in a world of pain"
"you disobeyed my directions, i know your location now, i will be there soon to roundhouse kick you back to your shitty iphone"

hahaha that made me LOL

I live in Montana, where we have a city named "Butte" off of I-90... the kind GPS lady informed me to take the exit towards butt yesterday. Everyone in my car just lost it.

Haha although it is quite funny when she mispronounces things, it's also kind of annoying. Some things are just not even close to how you think you'd pronounce them, and if you're navigating somewhere you're not familiar, I think this would be an issue! Hopefully someone finds some voice change options, or hopefully there is a software update that helps this lady read a little better :D other than that, i love this phone!

Google definitely needs to do some work on the text-to-speech stuff. The most annoying thing I find it does is that it "reads" you the entire exit sign.
E.g. if you're taking an exit that says something like "Exit 32-A-B-C. City A. City B. Rt 1. Rt 2." That's exactly what the robot lady will announce. It takes forever, I can't understand 1/2 of it and it's very annoying.

But again, for a free beta app it's pretty darn good.

Or a Mr. T option:

"I pity the fool that doesn't turn left on Broadway!"
"You're crazy, fool, if you don't make a right on Maple Street."
"You're on the jazz again if you don't take a left at Main Street."

There is a way to change the voice in Google Navigation, and everything else. Menu > settings > text to speech > Always use my settings should be checked > then change the language. Hope this helps. Still digitized but cool for other languages or a British accent.

Do you have to be in a route to get to those settings? Also, is there a way to just start the Nav app without following a route?
