Official Swype on Incredible discussions

doh! I completely spaced on that. I just assumed because I had to jump through hoops to install it as an apk or whatever I had to do it the same way lol. Thanks!!!

The distrbution of Swype except from the developers themselves is illegal.

It is against our policy here at Android Forums to allow posts, links or even mentions of how to obtain applications not intended for public use. This includes paid and free.

I respect that and I'm sorry for contributing to this thread if it goes against the legal system.

However, is there a way to get a LEGAL version of Swype? Have the developers released it?

To my knowledge no, it is still in beta.

I think it will sell like crazy when it is released though.

I've visited Swype's site periodically and have yet to find where on their site you are able to "Sign up" . . . how exactly did you sign up?

I must be one of those "not intimately familiar with the QWERTY keyboard" people, because I've been diligently practicing with Shapewriter for a week, and I find it frustrating as hell. I never seem to hit the letter I want, and its word prediction is all over the place -- I often find myself re-swiping a word 3 or 4 times before giving up and punching in the letters individually. Granted, I'm not the most coordinated fellow in the world, but it's back to Smart Keyboard Pro for me.

I really can't believe that people download something they are not supposed to have and cannot have legally and then run into problem and start bad-mouthing the developers. Just WHO do you thing you are? Swype will be out of beta soon and everyone will be able to pay for it. Take a chiiiill pill.

Not sure if it is the same with Shapewriter (I'm sure "someone" can chime in and confirm/deny), but with Swype the MOST important tip I can give someone is to STOP trying to be accurate.

If you are trying to hit the keys dead on, Swyping will be a very unhappy experience for you. Once you let that idea go and concentrate on being fluid it should come together for you very quickly.

I have fat, inarticulate fingers and touch screen typing has always been a challenge for me, but swyping and it's "close enough" precision requirement has worked out great.

Rhythm and fluidity :)

everyone who is "waiting" should log into their Swype account and check; I have seen multiple reports of folks not getting emails, but having the link active in their accounts.

There may be a giant pile of undelivered gmail somewhere between here and there ;)
