Official Swype on Incredible discussions

I can confirm what Veccester wrote - for both Swype and Shape Writer. If I recall correctly, you'll get the pop-up after you select the appropirate app as your keyboard input, not when you hit install on the apk. However, it was early in the AM and I didn't have any coffee in me, so my memory may be cloudy.

Weird. I just swapped over to the Swype keyboard and it didn't say anything like that. Maybe because it saves it into the dictionary? I don't know. I'm not worried about it since I don't use my phone to transfer CC info or do anything important like that. :D

Yes, Diablo, it is a warning because of the 1st line on the left picture - ! your personal information.

I assume too that it is because of the user dictionary. It just worries me a bit because I have entered personal information in the past. I suppose I could always switch input methods before entering a credit card or highly protected password.

Anyway, it's working great!

Though, I may uninstall and try the red one...that sounds cool!

got mine working again but i can no longer use my sweet cyanogenmod skin :(

Is the red lettering on black keys version available again? I really would prefer to stick with that one.
Check the main Incredible forum or go directly over to XDA. There IS a red "Incredible" version that works great. It is a little different than the one that expired though. I just started using it today & I think I may like it better than the old red "Incredible" version. Hopefully this one doesn't expire any time soon.

But it doesn't say anything about your passwords. Just user defined dictionary (which is on you if you save your passwords and other info) and your contact data. I get what you're saying, but it doesn't worry me with the way that I use the phone. :)

There was a link to an altered version Swype. Since the version is illegal the MODs have instructed us that links to software like that puts AF in jeopardy, so I moved it. Please do not post links to illegal software. If anyone notices such a link please simply hit the little "!" (report post) link at the lower left hand corner of the post and a Mod will handle the problem. No need to refer to the link as it will automatically be reported. Thank you!

Steven is right on the money-

Threads/posts which contain links for the purposes of obtaining Swype are illegal. These types of threads/posts will be deleted and infractions will be issued to members posting links to the application.

The distrbution of Swype except from the developers themselves is illegal.

No, the warning messages pops up after you install the program. It is a pop-up message (black background, white text) that specifically says this program "collects user information, including passwords and other personal information". It appeared when I checked the Swype box in menu>settings>language and keyboards.

I was saying that the warning message was likely prompted because of the line about "personal information".

I'm not too worried about it either; and its definitely not a reason for me to go back to the stock keyboard.

why cant we just get it from the market?

Because it's in beta testing. They only release it to certain people (I think you have to sign up) to test out. Eventually it's supposed to be a paid app that will probably be in the market. For now though we have to wait.

Try this one. Should be the newest version. Let me know if it works.

Make sure you completely uninstall the other version first. :)

The one on the left is plain Swype.

The one on the right is red and black themed.

Thanks so much man! Life saver!

Hey excuse my ignorance but how do i download sywpe from here, all I see in the images is something weird like a barcode. my swype just expired and i'm going crazy, if anyone can help me out I would really apprieciate it. thanks.

Go to the Market. Download "Barcode Scanner".

Open it. Come back here and scan the barcode (click on the one you want to download to make it bigger). To scan you don't have to press a button just hold the phone up to the QR code (barcode) and it will beep once it is found. Follow the link and it will download.

No problem. The link works like a charm if you are on your phone. When you have access to a computer, it's a lot easier to get it from the barcode. If you get it from a link on your computer, you have to put it on the phone and then use a file manager to install it. More steps involved than just using a barcode scanner. ;)

I apologize in advance if this is a dumb question, but....when I uninstall the expired swype app, then scan the barcode above, the app installs fine. Then, I go to languages and keyboards and choose Swype....but Swype doesn't show when I go to enter text...just the old keyboard. Did I not uninstall the old one properly?

Did you try a reboot? that's weird.

Try long holding on where you would normally enter text (text box). And switch the input method to the swype keyboard that way.
