Official GSM Hero 2.1 Thread

Right, I've just spoken to Orange who didn't have a clue about this update either. The woman I got spoke to the data team who didn't even realise there was an update out. Not helpful.

She then phoned HTC for me, and they gave the usual "you will receive two messages within 14 days etc..."

From what I read earlier aren't the carriers involved with this update? HTC can't tell me when orange are going to send it, Orange can't tell me when HTC are going to send it...whats going on!?!

As far as I understand, the software in your phone have to ping a server.
the sim-free ones should ping straight to HTC servers, while yours should ping orange.

In my opnion its all carriers fault

I couldn't agree more! So why do orange not even know what's going on?!? I wish I never knew about this update now!
 
I am on orange UK. I have still not received any OTA update notifications on my phone? Has anyone received any notifications?

Your phone will get it's update from T-Mobile. That's the only firmware update it can take.


Why are all the people with rooted phones so desperate to get back to stock for this update? It's already available in custom firmware form.

so my orange sim will try and connect to t mobiles servers? i'v had nothing yet, and have tried changing the date too!

Well, your phone isn't compatible with any other firmware release, so it wouldn't work if it connected to anybody but T-Mobile. So it doesn't seem likely that the SIM card determines where it checks.

You could always try sticking a T-Mobile SIM card in there and then changing the date though. None of us know how this works, so it's worth a shot.

i'll give this a try right now, i'll get back to you and see if it works. problem iss tht i'v already changed the date to the highest it goes.
 
I am also on Orange UK, no notifications for update as yet. Have tried to roll date/year forward but no luck?
Any suggestions???????
 
The update roll out now is a pre-configure for the 2.1 update later - however , if you set your phone date to year to 2011 , you will get the pre-update immediately!
 
it seems that phones on Orange and three are currently not getting the update. it seems they are testing with their branding etc before releasing which is so annoying! but don't think there is anything we can do but wait!
 
Why are people rushing to try and get the intermediate update anyway? There's no advantage in having it until the full 2.1 actually gets released in the UK is there?

Of course, no, not really.

But without this update it looks like it may prevent the full 2.1 update from taking.

Google is planning to redesign the Android 3.0 and set it up with a bundle of goodies and I'm still waiting for my PRE-update to 2.1... sad... so sad...
