Yes, but it should be the consumers choice to add that stuff not the manufacturers. They could add the widgets or skins to the marketplace for those that want them.

The fact that Google is designing Gingerbread to eliminate Sense/Blur/Touchwiz is a sign that they recognize this as a problem.

My wife is excited about the droid 2, and we are hoping that they are both released at the same time, so I will have a Droid 2 AND Droid X to play with, booyah.

Yeah good point, but just because they think it is a problem doesn't necessarily mean it is. A ton of people like Sense, while there are a ton that don't. With my understanding on Gingerbread they are making the UI better, but they wont stop Manufacturers from putting their own on there still.

I took this as google thinking Vanilla Android enough and they are trying to make them nicer like Sense/Blur. Hopefully this will stop Manufacturers from putting their skins on these phones, but for some reason I don; think they will.

How awesome would it be to be able to download Sense/Blur from the marktetplace? I really don't think HTC will like that though, I wonder if they would ever allow Sense to be on non HTC phones.

Everything I have heard has pointed to the Droid 2 coming out a little later, that will be awesome for you though. My wife is thinking about the Droid 2, she wants a dedicated keyboard, so if you do get it, please let me know how it is.

See, that's how I think it should be. Put a free copy of your launcher/etc on your phones and then sell it on the marketplace as well for people who buy phones from other manufacturers. Let the add-ons compete head-to-head on the marketplace and let the hardware compete head-to-head at the wireless store.
 
I personally am going to miss sense...:(
but, i hear people rave more over stock than sense.
i use to be big on windows mobile and sense was called touchflo3d, it was PAINFUL!!
i never liked it. until i had it on android then i didnt want to be without it.
now, i can go either way. im done competing with other peoples phones (i win all the matches). that all sense is good for. it just looks good!
now, i want to run my businesses smoothly and just want android. stock or not. i played with a moto android phone with blur and it wasnt bad. if you take the widgets off its like it never existed. plus im going to get beautiful widgets so i`ll have the sense clock (hopefully it has the animated weather too..). though...i was thinking of trying a new skin when i see how the processor performs. something light...more importantly ROOT!!
once we have that then it doesnt matter cause i`ll be changing skins probably weekly!
anyways...the forums are such a good place to go when your waiting for a phone :)
a bunch of people like me that want to do nothing but talk phones! :D

I'm not sure if that is helping me or making me more anxious. lol

As long as whatever verison of blur isn't too intrusive I see no reason that it would make that big of a deal to me. This phone is going to be a beast either way.

+1 all my friends and my wife look at me like I'm insane when I start talking about 1gHz processors and "ninjablur" Its nice to be around other crazy people!

I agree with this big time, everyone I know thinks I am a freak. Luckily my wife is somewhat patient when all I have do is talk about phones. I can't help it, I work in a I.T. department for Amazon, and sometimes I have nothing better to do than stalk this site, heck even when I have better things to do I am still here, lol.

Haha, when class gets boring I just whip out my iPod connect to wifi and I am alive again ....
 
What happened to the guy that had one in hand? That always drives me nuts when someone has an unreleased piece of tech and then they keep it all to themselves. Like they've never been on this side of the fence..

Man, I'd be doing videos and answering any and all questions I could if I had one of these babies.

It all comes down to "How much do you want to keep your job"??

Most people with unreleased tech have to sigh very strict NDAs. Personally I wouldn't want to get fired for leaking info/pics/video just to satisfy some people on a forum.

I'm not saying I don't wish there was more info out there.... I am saying I understand why.
 
We need a dev to get their hands on one so we can see if it has a locked bootloader or not... I really hope the devs will be able to root and make custom ROMs quickly and easily just like with the droid 1.

Chances are this won't happen til LTE but if it does happen before then they wouldn't force us into a new data plan if we already have the old plan but if you were going to upgrade to the Droid X2 or whatever then you'd be forced to give up the unlimited plan.

...which everybody will eventually do. With newer, better gadgets releasing every 3 months people will upgrade and lose their unlimited plans. This just sucks. Wonder how long before Sprint and T-Mobile follow.

Wouldn't it be something like AT&T are doing now where if you have a unlimited data plan then you are not effected.
 
Regarding the LET tiered data;

Im planning on buying a Droid X on an individual plan with unlimited data. If I ever want to roll that over to a family plan, will I be forced to choose a tiered data plan?

I'd get sued if I mentioned any details about my prototype phone. There are strict agreements you must sign. Violating them is a bad bad thing.

I am not sure about Verizon's data fees but I know they said for a fact that on AT&T that you keep your same plan if you want. I don't see how they can change your plan, a lot of people still have older plans from Verizon and they are grandfathered in still, as long as you keep it and don't get rid of it I don't think they can do anything.
