Shut up about the freakin' iPhone!!

I love my Desire, but the apps, particularly the games are FAR better on the iPhone than on Android.

Hope it'll change soon, but if not, I may just buy a fourth gen iPod Touch when it comes out :)

Is anyone else as sick and tired as I am of hearing about the damn iPhone and how much better it is than the Android OS?! Everytime someone catches a glimpse of my phone it starts off with:

"Oh, is that an iPhone?"
To which, I reply..."No, It's the HTC Incredible." (I don't even bother saying Droid Incredible any more b/c everyone thinks it's the Motorola.)
At which point, the annoying self-opinionated wisenheimer finds it neccessary to question my decision to purchase the Incredible instead of the iPhone because the "iPhone is so much better" and "has so many apps" and blah, blah, blah! All the while never really explaining their basis behind why exactly the iPhone is so much better other the fact that everybody and their mom has one.

I bought the Incredible because it's a better phone. So S.T.F.U!! Not to mention the fact that Verizon doesn't even carry the iPhone, (yet).

Okay, I feel better now.

i dont mind people buying iphones... i just hate fan boys or clueless people who have them saying its god's gift to humanity

This is it in a nutshell people. Who cares what phone someone decides they want, different strokes for different folks.

What I'm really tired about is so many threads and reviews comparing Apple phone to every new android device. How about they stop doing that crap and just compare one Android to Another android? It just makes it seem like the only thing that's out there to compare to is that particular Apple phone and it's really not. It's like more free advertising for Apple, which there is plenty of already.

The way I see it and from what I have encountered with people, they seem to think that every time a new phone comes out, even though they may be all running Android, that they are their own separate device (kinda like a feature phone) and probably aren't going to have anything like a centralized app store. They don't know any better and I'm sure stopping the comparison of everything Android to Apple phone and just comparing Androids to Androids would raise awareness that: "Oh, there's more than one type of "Droid" phone out there!" It would certainly help enlighten more consumers that they have a choice of gear when it comes to Android and they're not stuck with only one particular type of device.

I have a coworker that saw my Inc when I had first gotten it and I was showing her some interactive live wallpaper on it (running really smoothly, no less) while her two friends were watching, one asked if it was the Eris to which I said no, that it was a new android phone that had just come out. I mentioned that it was faster, and had a bit higher specs, etc. After all was said and done, the ONLY thing my coworker said was: "Nice, but iPhone is still better." Gave no reasons, no facts, nothing! So I said: "I want to see you show me interactive wallpapers!" Another time, I was looking up a video on youtube that another coworker had uploaded so we could watch it. While I was searching for the video, I had to stop Pandora playing so I switched back to the home screen during the search and moved to the screen where I had my Pandora widget so I could press stop, after which I went back to the youtube app to see what results had come up, to which the same coworker said: "Look at that! Trying to be like the iPhone!" I was too busy trying to figure out which video my coworker was wanting us to watch that I ignored the comment, but I though to myself: "no, actually, you can't do that on your phone...." It's that sort of attitude that gets annoying after a while, and I see it frequently everywhere I go.

I personally think that the iPhone is a great device to compare all phones to.

1) It's hugely popular, so everyone will have used one and know how it runs, and therefore can get a sense of how the device being compared to it runs.

2) It's not a device locked to one country. Take the EVO 4G. If you use it as a comparison to every phone, only people in the US will get an impression of how good the phone is.

3) A lot of the time, people are tossing the coin between getting an iPhone or getting an Android device. These comparisons may help them decide.

Can you suggest a better device to compare phones to?

While iPhone has lots of apps, it lacks the 5 best apps a mobile device can have imo:
Google Navigation
Google Voice
Swype
Adobe Flash
Wifi Tether

I am sooooooo very lucky to find most of my friends either are non confrontational, don't like the iphone and/or can't afford it. However some know about android, and I'm gonna show them when I've got my new phone :D

How could you possibly want them? Steve Jobs says you don't need them! :D

Problem is that people actually believe his FUD.
I ran Froyo on my N1 for a few days.
One of the tests I did was battery life + flash.
So.. I fired up CNN and put it on that stream of the oil spill they have 24/7
It lasted just over 5 hours playing that stream on a full charge.

Seems to be on par with playing video on youtube.
So, yeah flash is one of the apps your looking for :D

I say let them keep Jobs.
And when he is dead they will bring him back to life as they did Orville Redenbacher to announce the iPhone 20G

Maybe Jobs does not need them but I don't think I could live without Swype, Google Voice and Google Navigation. And can't wait til I get flash.

With that being said, I'm coming back to the marketing thing, Steve Jobs is a marketing god. So much so that he doesn't even believe in it. Jobs believes he has the right to define trends, not consumers. He could literally throw an Apple symbol on just about anything and it would sell.

Like I said, I hate Apple but I gotta give the king of all dbags my respect for redefining the mp3 industry (would you really buy something other than an iPod if you were looking for a portable music player that wasn't your phone?) and turning the idea of marketing upside down, inside out then sh!itting on it.

I agree. But that still doesnt change the fact that he's a greedy control douche.

I love when my iPhone friends play the "app card"

I just show them my 250+ apps installed (that I do use at least weekly, save for some of the games) plus the infinite amount of roms at my disposal.

Android is the thinking mans iPhone.

As said earlier in the thread, we owe Apple a lot because they changed the whole landscape of how new generation smartphones work, but iPhones are for sheep whereas androids are for those who put a little thought into the phone they want and research the features important to them.

Show them Google Navigation,.Google Voice, Swype. If you have FroYo, show them Adobe Flash. Maybe even one of the many tethering apps.

If we realize the word "phone" is key, there's no contest because Verizon vs AT&T is like San Francisco vs Buffalo.
I'm still fascinated by the similarity between the iPhone and the iPad....
You can't make a call on either one of them.

Apple just made consumers believe that their "technology" is cutting edge. It really isn't. In my personal opinion, I believe that the OS is designed for idiots in mind. They just brainwashed everyone.

Don't worry, when the Android OS runs the phone market, they'll all be like "Well we were dumb. Thanks Apple!"

Showed my friend the wifi hotspot feature while we were on the train hitting the town. He didnt believe at first when i told him my phone could give him wifi. You should have seen his reaction when he saw my name popped up under the list of wifi hotspots on his ipod touch. ;)

The problem is that the fan boys want everyone to have an iphone. Some may be iphone developers. They don't want to worry about developing for different platforms. Just one phone with a 3.5" screen to rule them all and life will be simple. Maybe they are also holders of AAPL stock and don't want anything to take it down. So there is much more to fanboyism than just silly "go team Apple! Go go go!"

I'm very lucky that none of my friends give a flying f*** what phone anyone has! And for that matter neither do I! There are some advantages to reaching middle age.
