oh.. it is indeed... I was not aware that it had SENSE UI...
So i think I will root... let me ask only one more question.. in the future, do you guys think it will be possible to get the oficial 2.1 after having rooted? did someone here could receive the FOTA update after getting back to the stock rom?
Yes - you can revert to the latest official Rom and upgrade to 2.1 but it will mean you'll loose root access and possibly access to any further updates and improvements (e.g. 2.2) based on 'unofficial' versions.

That's what I'll be doing though I use SenseHero b5 which is quick, smooth and stable. Not used Villain though.
Re Rooting - It's a pain and can be time consuming but it's worth it.

i have the phone with Orange (spain), my build number is 2.73.61.5, is there anything i have to do other than wait for the damn OTA update?
(also, i have noticed beside the build number it also says: 146733 CL#61267 release-keys) what the hell is that??

As far as I know, you cannot do nothing. The release of the 2nd section (the entire eclair system) is not even out yet (Only if you live in Taiwan). And even if the eclair pops out one day on non-branded Heroes, you will not receive the update in the same time because you are branded and the upgrade must pass Orange tests before hits the phones. Thats why you cannot make any updates now, they're not available for carriers yet.
I still think that hTC will not release the Eclair this june. Peace
Confirmation that hTC have released the ROM upgrade to the UK: AKA hTC's tech support agents don't really have a clue what software they have and or haven't released!!
I wrote to hTC earlier with the complaint that it may be (according to the reports linked to above in this thread) another couple of months before the Hero gets an OS upgrade to 2.1
Got an email backwhich starts;
"Dear Thank you for contacting HTC Support I apologige..."
It then goes on to say;
"...If you have checked our website, you would have seen that we finally have launched the long awaited ROM upgrade to our customers..."
And with regards to my annoyance at feeling let down by hTC because I bought the Hero having been given the impression it would be supported with OS upgrades in a more timely fashion as Google released newer version, hTC said;
"...This is purely a persobnal risk venture..."
Now I'm no typing/spelling nazi, but I guess if the customer services department of an international corporation can't be bothered to spell or grammar check their replies to complaints, I guess we shouldn't be surprised that they haven't got the update sorted!!
The rest of the email just didn't make much sense, I assume hTC's UK support team are based in a far east call centre struggling with the language(an assumption partly based on the fact that it was signed off twice, with different european names, which struck me as just poor cut and pasting of standard responses)... and the technology knowledge! FFS

I didn't ask them anything; just made my complaint, and offered it as constructive criticism to let them know how badly they were handling the situation.In all fairness I can't even begin to imagine how many people are e-mailing HTC every day asking the same bloody questions.
If they're struggling with the volume of the same queries, then they've only themselves to blame, all they really needed to do was communicate better.
The irony being that I'm supposed to take a 'personal risk' with my cash to choose them, a company who don't know how to communicate properly, over a competitor like Apple for a communication product!

as far as we know not a lot, it seems to me that it is only the manual update option so yu can choose when to do the largeer second update.
i can not see how bug in the current rom would prevent the upgrade because the new rom will format your phone as it installed.
should be an other week untill the full ROM is out.

Just wondering, did the mini update on T-Mobile G2 the other day, the one that is supposed to prep for the full update. Reading more and more on the other rooted versions out there and thinking of trying it. Can I root it following this prelim update; the software version is still 1.5?

Update to YouTube and the ability to manually check for firmware updates.
Essentially a 'nothing' update but apparently it's the state that HTC want the Hero to be in prior to the 2.1 update.

I had this first issue for the first time today. Had to shut phone down.
Yes there will be, and VillainROM or similar should upgrade to 2.2 if you are interested in that.

I decided to root, and already have eclair running...
turn out I can go back to stock rom and I get asked if i want the FOTA update (again)..
but, no thanks.. I completely lost interest in this oficial update...
Villain rom not only have everything the oficial will have, but also can go to 2.2 as soon as it is available.

Because it invalidates any warranty or insurance we may have on the phone?
Because some are not comfortable with doing this in case it bricks their phone?
There are plenty of reasons why someone may be reluctant.
