Former iPhone users.. are you pleased?

2.1 supports multiple gmail accounts so setup some dummy one to work across all phones. Add your individual ones later. Just make sure you don't do any calendar or contact syncing with the dummy one. And you have to make sure nobody else does either.

Checkout HomePipe for itunes support. And don't blame google. You're the one that bought into a proprietary system when you went Apple and itunes. To expect seamless operation outside of that ecosystem...

I picked up an HTC EVO. It's a great phone. Definitely more configuration ability than the iPhone until iOS 4 (which I'm still using on my iPhone 3GS).
My only complaints are two. One is so, so, and the other BIG.
So, so - Sprint 4G Network in Houston shows vast coverage in Houston and surrounding area. I get about 550-600 kb/sec download with 1 to 4 bars. Signal doesn't change this. I get almost 2000 kb/sec on 3G. The 4G in Houston STINKS. Either Sprint (Clearwire), or the HTC has a major problem with 4G on Sprint. I don't know why. 3G is a little better than AT&T.
BIG - No Desktop Application that is compatible with iTunes for loading and syncing Apps on 2, or more, Android phones. With iTunes, I could purchase online, or on 1 phone, and then copy 'n paste (or download online with phone) on my wife's phone.
I'm not sure that I can do this at all until I purchase another HTC and try setting up the initial account the same as my gMail account. And if I do this, will it automatically set up her gmail and sync all of my email from my account, which I don't want? I want the same Apps purchased, available to my, my wife's, and my daughters phone without having to purchase App 3 different times.
I don't see a lot of guidance on this in the Android Forums. I do see a lot of complaints about it. This is a BIG drawback to people switching over from iPhones. I sure hope the Android Market cures this. They've had plenty of time to come out with an App to allow this. Apple has iTunes, and it sure don't seem to be hurting their App Store profits by allowing downloading and installing Apps to more than one device.
Otherwise, I like the HTC, but I'm still a little reluctant to switch 3 iPhones to 3 HTC phones.

If you have never dropped a call while using an iphone on at&t then you have never made a call on an iphone using at&t. I have used them for a few years and the number of dropped calls is huge. It is a very common thing. Yet you have NEVER even had it happen once? BS

I dont care where you live. The calls drop.

I have had an iPhone since Sept. 2007 and have only had a handful of dropped calls. Probably less than 10 in almost three years.

However, I'm still considering switching to Android.

EDIT:
I guess my point is that, for some people, dropped calls haven't been a huge issue.

YES!!!

I used iPhone 3G for 2 years on AT&T. Every phone call I made was a nightmare. I experienced call drops at least once per 2 calls I made. After a while that gets very very irritating. Sprint has been good to me - I have better consistent signal where ever I go at a far better price.

As for the hardware, I am loving the superbly superior HTC Evo 4G. Back on AT&T I was eligible for upgrading to iPhone4 but I switched to Sprint this month.

Android is far better than iOS. Here you have true multi-tasking and not restricted to whatever apps Apple decides to throw down your gullet.

Finally I expect to have 4G soon (Midtown NY area) and then I can get faster speeds to do what I want. 3G is speedy enough for webbrowsing, YouTube, IM and downloading apps. With 4G I expect far better performance from SprintTV.

Not and iPhone user, but just left ATT. Evo and Android are awesome.

Can you believe ATT is going to charge data used over Microcells to the recently announced 2GB tiered caps? Wow, how genuine. Distributing the MCs because the network isn't good, then charging for the band-aid fix.

There will be a lot of former iPhoners here after the iP4 is released and people find out how truly unremarkable it is since it's stuck on a flailing network.

In other words: Some people have been really lucky, and those people are rare. :)

I guess it just depends on where you are. I know quite a few people with iPhones and they haven't had much trouble with dropped calls. In my area, people with a ton of dropped calls are the rare ones.

Just curious. If 50% of your calls were dropped, why did you stay with AT&T for two years? You could have backed out within the first two weeks. If I had that kind of trouble, I would be gone in a minute.

I really wanted the iPhone which seemed to be all the rage at that time. The first month was still bearable when I was told AT&T is putting up new towers in my area and it will fix everything at the end of 2months. Of course nothing changed.

I get a few drop calls a day. Sometimes my phone will not make calls for 5 minutes, keeps saying call failed. Sucks. But when you are stuck in a contract, you are stuck. Can't wait to leave AT&T once Sprint gets EVOs back in stock.

I don't have my EVO yet as I'm still waiting for stock to appear. All the local brick and mortars around me are out as are the close Walmart's and Best Buy retailers. I'm going to get one, just not sure exactly when.

My iPhone 3G has served me well for the last 2 years. AT&T has not. I have experienced no less than 2 dropped calls a week, as many 10. In one conversation with AT&T's customer service I was told that my car was the reason my calls dropped. In another, I was told that it was my fault and that I should be happy that they still allow me to be a customer. I wrote a letter to AT&T after that one and got 6 months of free service.

I'm looking forward to the EVO and Android. Like I said, no qualms about my iPhone- it has done its job well and been reliable. At the time, iPhone OS was the best. However, even after I jailbroke my phone- I have really missed a lot of the functionality that Android users have had with their OS. The lack of Flash support upsets me as I am a Flash content designer. I also prefer my notifications easier to access and view quickly.
Look, bottom line- their are a lot of things that the iPhone does really well. It is a simple interface with little room for error. Now it's just boring and uninspiring. I miss captivating and customizing.

I can't wait to get the EVO and I'm glad everyone is sharing their opinions- it's reinforcing my decision to try Android. The decision to leave AT&T was an easy one.

Mine was the same way. Sure is nice to be able to call people now!

FYI They're coming out with the white one in a few weeks if you can wait that long.

I'm glad to hear that. I didn't have good luck with that whatsoever, but I'm glad somebody is.

Did you try double twist, it will add all your music from I tunes

I tried setting up 2 Google accounts today. And it does sync all email. I know that the 1st account set up is the one that's used for the Market. So, syncing the first account would be a no go unless you set it up NOT to sync.

But, if you set that up, doesn't just the email get synced from the 2nd account? It looked like it didn't sync the Contacts from the 2nd account. Or, did I miss something there?

If not, then your system is a lifesaver.....

Just hold down the power button, then hit Vibrate Only ....

On a side note, just another update: After 2 days with it, I'm starting to really get annoyed with my FB and Twitter updates. I'm used to FB pushing out notifications immediately to me on the iPhone, whereas the earliest I can put FB to update for me is once an hour. I could be doing it wrong though ... any ideas on how to get it pushed to me like the iPhone?

Try this. Since I already had a yahoo account for email. I use my gmail account for FB notifications and set my ringer from there. That way I get my updates as they come. You may have to set up an additional email account just for FB until they make a better app.

I've had my iPhones for over two years and different 3 states. I recall it dropping maybe twice.

Sorry, not so common.

They just announced Farmville for iPhone at WWDC. That's the best reason ever to switch to Android.

Wow.

The post above made valid points I can agree on all the way. I switched from 3G to the EVO and it was a pretty smooth transition. I do wish the wi-fi signal was a tad stronger, but I've heard this would be resolve via update.
Also another gripe would be the market place, I wish they would making more appealing and somehow have a standard, or a cut of period for what version you can develop for.(Yeah yeah it sounds like Apple) but I think after two years that OS version should be obsolete from development. I also wish the games where more refined, and good looking.
I am sure once Google launches that music program their apps would be presented on there as well, and hopefully when they have a standard to go by the games will become better. However I know it has to be hard to develop across a wide range of phones, but come on Google. The game have so much potential, and its lacking. Also as a former iPhone guy, please please redo the markets UI

Wow.

It is very common. We have over 20 iphones in use at our business, and everyone complains about call drops and call fails. Not one doesn't say they don't get drop calls.

Like I said in another post, it must depend on your location. There are about 20 people with iPhones at work & I know at least that many people personally with iPhones. None of them complain of dropped calls.

I live in Denison, Tx (north of Dallas) and travel to Waco with some regularity. I guess AT&T works well in Texas.

We have more than that at my corporate location which I visit every other month. Most Execs there have an iPhone and there are no complaints of dropped calls.

Next.

I am in Texas, and our staff travel all over Texas. I went to Las Vegas, and Seattle, and had the same issues I do here. You can't tell me you don't get drop calls because it's all over the forums for the iphone as well.
