1.6ghz EVO in July...

I"ve only seen 1.5ghz snapdragon processors VERY recently... in the news:

1.5 GHz Scorpion and quartet of HTC Windows Phone 7 handsets headed to North America? -- Engadget

Your "friend" is full of it.

If by release they mean announce, then maybe.....

So where's his sources? The rest of the electronics world is NOT like Apple and releases info all the time....

Proof.....?

ONCE AGAIN, he's not a "FRIEND" he's a VENDOR, I'm his biggest corp. account. If he's full of it he loses my account, that's really all there is to it.

Vicious bunch here...LOL. I was only REPEATING what I was told. He is not a "Friend", he is a vendor. I raised the same BS flag with him you guys are talking about on the horrible marketing aspect of this "IF" they squashed the 1ghz so soon after releasing it. I raised all the valid points you folks are raising...he stood by his statement. Time will tell I suppose...I have already committed (to myself) to pull the plug on my account with him if this ends up being BS. I don't need to risk my work reputation on a vendor that spews BS, so if he is wrong then he loses my 150 phones. That's all there is to it.

Peace.

If I were you i'd already start making plans for the switch... There is NO way Sprint would release a bigger, better device 3 weeks after their pride and joy hits the shelf... No carrier in it's right mind would do so....

My .02 but I am 110% sure you will be switching so you might as well start looking into it now...

I went to setup my swap from the Hero to EVo with my Sprint guy yesterday and this is what he told me. "In July (approx. the first week) the 1.6ghz Snapdragon will be released. I asked him was this rumor or fact and he said FACT. He suggested I wait and that's what I'm doing. (background on my relationship withthis guy) My company has about 150 phones with him and he knows to NEVER give me bad information or he will face the consequences. He has a private phone store (not a regular "Sprint" store). He knows I can EASILY move my business to a "Sprint" store....so for now I believe him.

He also told me that HTC will have a dual-core EVO out either later this year or early 2011 FWIW.

I apologize if this info. has already been brought up here before...I'm new here.

Peace.

very unlikely. people would just take advantage if their 30 days window and exchange this evo. not gonna happen

Ruff crowd here.... The bottom line is that it's your 150 lines that he will loose when his word is found to be bogus... It's your decision to wait and since you pay the bill on the 150 lines who am I to judge your choice..

Think about it this way... There are more leaks and holes in the tech community than an Iraqi submarine... How long in advance was the EVO know about? Do you really think the entire tech community could keep a new device hitting the shelf in 3 weeks a secret?

It's your decision and the EVO will still be for sale 3 weeks from now when you change your lines over..

You might as well go head and pull the plug now, because I guarantee you its NOT going to happen. 1.6ghz, and you believe that? Nope. Google 1.6 Qualcomm and see what info you get in return.

Nope,....I say what I mean and I MEAN what I say. I'll give him the chance to make good before punting. I can have a Sprint rep. in my office in less than 2 hours on any work day...they blow up my phone monthly as it is for my account. Won't be hard to switch over if it comes to that (as I'm sure it will).

your "sprint guy" isn't named "dan" by any chance is it?

seriously though, the evo was announced months ago but a new super device is getting released without any fanfare? lies!

Your rep doesnt know what he is talking about. Yes, the 1.6 chips will be out soon, but not phones. The chips will be released to phone manufacturers to make new phones, so it will be AT LEAST a year til we see a 1.6 or higher phone.

My thought is, why would any company release a bigger version in 30 days, when early adopters could just opt out and get the new phone without punishment? Besides all the stuff about phone leaks, and some blog would have some info on a 1.6 Evo, HTC would be canibalizing themselves to release it so close to the Evo

Its gonna have windows 7 on it. Don't border, android will be the god of all cell phones OS from now on. This day, I am proud to be an Android EVO 4G owner !

There are many reasons why this wouldn't be true. I have no clue why the OP's source is so adamant, but their information is just dead wrong.

No company would release an updated version of their hardware 3-6 weeks after the launch of a major release. That would have been like Apple releasing the iPad, and a month later, not only releasing the 3G version, but also making that 3G version with triple core 2.4Ghz processors. You'd have people rioting over the fact they just paid $500-$800 for an already outdated piece of tech. Hell, people complained in large numbers when Apple dropped the price on the first iPhone within a year, and that was just a price change.

Secondly, even if Sprint were ready and willing to commit financial suicide, there have been no FCC filings for a phone with a 1.6Ghz processor from anyone. Since all phones have to be approved by the FCC, you can bet there won't be one coming in a month.

Perhaps a 1.6Ghz EVO is coming in July 2011. That I could see. But if you really think that Sprint is going to cannibalize its own business and also managed to keep a massive tech secret from the world, then brother, I have got a bridge to sell you.

Quoted for truth.

This guy you trust is wrong. Simple as that--sorry! :)

I heard from my "rep" that a 2.0GHz will be out by next week... He has never been wrong so this has to be a fact!!!

I just got off the phone with a rep. He stated that there will be a phone coming in September that has a battery rated for 36 hours talk time, 1.8 GHz tricore, separate GPU made exclusively for the phone by ATI, and a 4.7" capacitive touchscreen.

Bah, wake me up when they come out with a quad core. :p

I have a few thousand accounts I'm responsible for managing for my company and my rep just told me Kendra Wilkinson and her fifty identical twins were on their way to feed us grapes and give "back rubs"

Besides all the other comments that have been posted I hope you aren't going to really "move" your phones to a "Sprint store".

I mean he actually may have given you bad information but why would he do that on purpose? Now..I could see moving your business to a Sprint store if it ends up costing you money because of his mistake. But if it's just bad info that gets posted on a forum I really wouldn't freak out about it.

1.5 GHz Scorpion and quartet of HTC Windows Phone 7 handsets headed to North America? -- Engadget

I'm thinking it could have come from something like this. Even though this was just posted this morning people can have other sources. There is also going to be a dual core snapdragon CPU but not for some time.

Don't be too hard on the guy.

I had to ask myself "if he can't even get the 1ghz EVO for several weeks after it's release, then how would he have this kind of "inside info."?

You just answered your own question. He doesn't have the phones to sell you so he's stringing you along so you don't go somewhere else. Once he gets his stock, he'll tweak his story a bit, apologize profusely for the confusion and hope you buy his phones.

We're almost a year to the day that Qualcomm announced the 1.3ghz Snapdragon. And today we're getting a 1.0ghz phone...

Engadget has been wrong before, despite their reliability. The chance you'll see an updated 1.6ghz chip in a phone NEXT MONTH is ZERO.

Why settle. About 4 weeks after your 1.6ghz is out, moorestown will be out. But you know what I hear, 4 weeks after that there will be a quadcore out, and that is what you should wait for. It is only 4 months away and if you are going to wait the extra month, just wait the extra 3 months. Mean while, I will play with my new phone.
