10 Hour Evo Battery Life: Graph of Battery Usage

...

What do you guys think? Is there anything running here that may be out of sorts or is it pretty normal. My high usage earlier in the day may have just been caused by me going in and checking stats in SystemPanel maybe. I'm bad and fidgety with leaving new apps alone.

Also looks like you have several "background" data-using apps running (like facebook and email). Are you polling or using email push? If push, that's a hog as it never lets your phone truly go to sleep. I don't use facebook, but maybe it's keeping the data active too much, also. Note your CPU usage versus mine that I just posted. That's the problem; something is keeping your phone "running" at fairly high utilization. If you can determine what it is and reconfigure it to do otherwise, you're golden. Still, if it were not for that 40 minute SportyPal drain I think you'd be close to 12 hours for the drain time and if you're using all of that $10 Premium Data then I think that's pretty good :D

Yep. Agreed. I'm going to watch it some more. I like this thread a lot just for comparison and to see how others are fairing. I've disabled GPS now and also rebooted my phone to keep it fresh.

One thing I did note was that HTC Sense used quite a bit (20m) CPU or so. Is yours like that as well?

I have MAIL polling every 2 to 3 hours I believe during peak times. GMAIL I left to its own devices.

Just installed these apps and will share my results because I'm still stumped as to my poor battery life. Yesterday my battery died after 14 hours since charge and 2.5 hours total awake time :(

Ive read practically every post, article, and suggestion for improving battery life but mine still sucks. I've cycled the battery at least 3 times now but that also did nothing to help.

Welcome Jedil.

This morning I've disabled GPS and have removed the Facebook widget from one of my home screens. I was using MAIL to retrieve email from my 2nd gmail account. I've now added that to the GMAIL app to see what that does.

The only active widget that could potentially be using the network is MINT.

My CPU usage seems to be a tad lower since removing the Facebook widget Looking like I'm running just around 10% at the moment.

Will post more later on what I see.

I am new to Android and new to the forum. I have to say that I absolutely love this phone and am becoming a real big fan of the Android OS.

I just wanted to know if it is normal that I only have at most 80m of memory available at any given time with really nothing running at a particular time. I know that this OS runs differently and more efficiently than other OS's but still has me a bit concerned. The battery life I have been experiencing is actually pretty poor killing it at an average of 10% an hour with almost no usage at all but I think this has a lot to do with my cell reception at my office and believe it or not the battery life is actually better than with my old phone (palm pre). I have bluetooth and wifi turned off unless I am using them and I just got rid of ATK (due to it's mixed reviews). Is there anything I can do differently or is this normal?

Hmm I can say that running normally with 80mb is nothing to worry about. If you use System Panel to kill all, you should reclaim over 200mb of memory. But most of those apps are inactive, so they don't take any CPU power or battery consumption.

Hm, not a lot I can say. My battery life was pretty bad initially, as in dead in about 6 hours. I went all over online looking for tweaks and stuff to help the battery life. Right after the weekend, around monday or tuesday, I noticed that my phone kept freezing/lagging. It would not be responsive, then all of a sudden catch up with all my inputs, then be slow again. Then, it appeared to reboot randomly (although I don't think it actually rebooted, just showed the boot sequence).

I hard resetted it (not on a full battery, just randomly in the middle of the day), and the battery life after that came out much better, reaching 12 or so hours, and that's without messing with much settings, just removing the friendstream widget.

The next battery charge right after the 12 or so hours was bad again, i started charging before it died completely, but appeared to be on track to die at about 6 hours.

I'm still trying to break-in the battery, and possibly do another hard reset on a full charge to see if it is the battery's calibration that is off.

Throughout this, I did a bunch of different tweaks, so this is hardly a scientific study.

Here are my graphs today. Unplugged from charger around 6:45am and it's probably going to go back on here shortly. So...10 hours and am just now hitting 18% on the battery.

(Not sure why, but one of these plots says 3 day, but it's only 1 day)

This app kicks ass!!!!

Thanks!

Which app is it? I'm going back through and can't find it. TIA!

I want to analyze my usage a bit more. I'm getting a solid 13-14 hours, which I am pleased with, but if I can do something to make it better, I will.

I was going to post my stats today after a week of tweaking and now the app won't let me pull up my history. Monitoring enabled is still checked under the settings. The icon doesn't show up in my notification bar either anymore. Any ideas? Did my lite version expire or something?

Aww damn. June 11th is when the beta expired :(

Is everyone using the paid version of this app to get the graph? I tried the free version and can't get the same thing.

If you see a plot, now, they are. It was a free beta until June 11... yesterday! Now you pay to play. You can also get JuicePlotter (in the marketplace) for free. If all you care about is plotting, this is fine... it has bugs but is fine.

In the "SystemPanel App / Task Manager" when I go to settings and try to check, Monitoring enabled (so that I can get a graph at the end of the day), it says "Not available in free version." Do I have to buy this app to use it?

yea, unfortunately the beta is over.

Here is a couple screens from my EVO. When it warns you to plug in the phone it also has a button to check usage that is built into the phone. Wish somone could build an app directly to this. As the battery was draining (almost dead) I left this screen up (waiting for it to die) total of 13hrs and 20+ min. It does not use any battery to check this. Look at how long it has been unplugged. The BT, Sprint Nav and Beautiful widgets never get killed by my task killer because these are a must for my job. I am a Professional Driver of 21 years and these are needed.

I know this is an old thread, but in case it's helpful to anyone after this much time...

Yes, there is a way to directly access the same screen showing battery usage:

Code:
Menu | Settings | About Phone | Battery | Battery Use

Additionally, you can create a Shortcut for your home screen:

Code:
Menu | Add to Home | Shortcut | Settings | Battery Use

Enjoy!
