Root [1st Gen] Rooting and reading on a Kindle

If you root a Kindle do you then have to use the APP to read books? And if you root, do you get access to the entire memory bank for apps? I think its limited to 1/4 of the 8gb stock?

If all you do is root then the Kindle Launcher will still be what you use. It will still be the exact same as unrooted, just with root access now. As for the SD card space, you would need to repartition to modify space available for apps.

I'm running go launcher on my kf to give it more of an android tablet feel and to open up features and apps that the stock kf didn't have. When my wife wants to read on it she can either launch the amazon reader app or just click the amazon launcher from the app drawer and amazon functionality is restore just like it was before I got ahold of it. The only thing that gives people problems is watching moves from amazon but there are work arounds for that too.

Oh and btw, the google books looks to have a lot more free books in it than the amazon store does.
