2.1 Battery life went down the crapper.

I just reflashed to the unpatched version caddyman posted a link to. I wonder if something in the patch screwed up something that keeps the phone awake. My awake times were always very very high. I also had the Cell standby issue OTD mentioned in another thread. I would really like to bare down and find the culprit of the battery drain. I'm getting 8 to ten hours max, with the same usage as 1.5 (now that I can finally stop playing with it) where I could make it 12 ro 14 before.

Are you saying you are still getting the awake issue even after reflashing?

I had the awake issue and it was caused by the htc battery widget.

Experiement...

Those who are not having awake issue with their HTC battery widgets, try this...click on the widget and make it show you battery information.

What happens?

1. crashes sense
2. Awake time bug occurs.

sorry no. I'm testing the reflash to see if that clears it up. Sorry if that post seemed disconnected. I made my daughter lunch and changed a diaper in the middle of it.

Been using the htc battery widget. I've had sense crash once and still haven't experienced the awake bug.

Ok...tried it...no crash. Now for the wait to see if my wake time increases. I am at 21% awake right now.

Hate to sound like a noob, but where are you looking to see awake time percentage. If I go under battery, all I see is Up Time and Awake Time, but no %.

...or do I need to break out the Math!?!

1.5 broke out the math for you but now you have to do it.

For those that are getting terrible battery life. Just curious. Try looking under "Battery Use"-->"Cell Standby"...what is your "Time without a signal" percentage? My battery usage was terrible today but I was in a low signal area today and have 50%.

Edit: This is for those who are using 2.1

I just reflashed today. My cell stand by is at 50%. 25m time on and time without a signal is at 50%. Also I'm still having awake time issues. up time 3hr 50m and awake time is 3 hr 28 minutes. I just can't figure this out:mad::confused:

edit: Ok I've found something. I have Gesture search and lock 2.0 installed. Both show time running similar to my awake time. I've unistalled both and will see what this does.

Spare parts will let you find the culprit. Mine was the calendar. Partial awake time was highest and it showed more network use than Pandora! I don't know the other crud works but th information that program provides is awesome.

I was systematically reinstalling apps today, using them, and paying attention to the wake time. It looks like this is caused for me by the google navigation. :(

Since I used it (and did the install of the needed addon) my phone has not slept. I exited the program properly too.

After grabbing spare parts, it looks like the dialer is holding me awake. Not sure how/why it is though.

EDIT: Scratch that - looks like its just some bug in the android operating system itself... might be triggered by navigation or maps.

I am about to make a thread of what app's i run with 2.1 and my battery life because i don't have the google sign in problem or any app's ever crashing or force closing.

Battery widget was the cause of my woes.

Uninstalled the HTC battery widget (crashed my sense) then haven't had a problem since.

So, unless you really need to see the percentage, uninstall the HTC widget, unless you don't have an issue.

I don't get it you guys went to the market downloaded the battery widjet by htc or whatever and all using that? why the need to view the exact % of the battery life when if you go into settings you can already tell if it's 10% 20% 30% 40% 50% 60% 70% 80% 90% and 100%? if it's between those then you guessed it's x5%.

lol i really need to make a how to guide of the fact that i have 2.1 running with no problems. and when i mean no problems i mean no problems. my phone doesn't even need to sign into google when i start it. i click the menu real quick when it starts and maybe it's b/c the app's i downloaded but it never pops up anymore and yes i've restarted the phone like 5 times and still it will not pop up.

should we believe the battery info ?
should we believe the signal info?...think some have put this to be bogus.
has anyone put a handheld meter on their battery? or are you going on what the phone lies about?..... just venting *sigh*

Well because it would nice to be able to download supposedly approved apps from the market place and not have buggy shit! What's the freaking point of having a smartphone if ever other 4th app you install hangs or force closes! It's getting to the point I'm almost removed 100% of my widgets and only run 3 programs. If I do that 2.1 actually works for a day before I'm forced to reboot. 2.1 ughhhhhh

I'm just now starting to get force closes and my gmail is not syncing...I'll be checking out the bugs thread to see if that has been an issue. Before this, my phone has been working well and my battery life has been great. I switched to HTC battery widget and nothing changed. The only reason my batt life was horrible yesterday was because I was in a low signal area. You really have to look at that as the culprit when you look at battery life. You will get terrible battery life in a low signal area with any type of phone unless you just flat out cut off the radio (airplane mode).

Yes, I think that the battery life and what is using the battery can be believed. I'm getting about the same results (if not better) than when on 1.5.

I have no problem and haven't seen one force close so far. will make a thread containing all the app's I use. maybe i am lucky or maybe I just have all the app's that work with 2.1

i think i might have figured out what it killing my battery or at least have a good affect on it...I checked my battery status and my cell standby, my time without a signal is at 51%....so i guess its constantly searching for a signal and draining my battery, but this wont be an issue since im heading back to school tomorrow thats more in an open area than my parents house back here in the sticks...

Bingo...that is exactly it. My time without signal today has been 10%...much longer battery life than yesterday when I had 50%.

battery life is better with 2.1.

It sucks because the phone shouldn't use more juice in a bad signal area. It's what killed my old motorola phone on ATT. Constantly searching and crap.

I want to believe you but I can't. The build is the same thus the same issues affect everyone. May not see them yet, but they're coming (or already have:rolleyes:).

You mention you did not have the authentication signin happening everytime you restart. That's something that's suppose to happen, not just for people who are "unlucky." Sorry, it's hard to believe what you are claiming.

yea i was ready to take it back to VZW and get another Blackberry because of this battery situation but im going to wait till i get back to school and see how the battery goes when im around a more constant strong signal.

Mine was fine yesterday then wouldn't sleep starting about 6am. So I re flashed it and started putting stuff back. Saw that it started staying awake aftert linking to Flickr and Twitter. So I deleted those and still did it. So I disabled weather re booted and so far ok. I noticed in that many things including the things I noted are listed under calendar in network usage. If it goes the rest of the day ok I'll add one back per day and see I'd it spikes again. Man im sick of baby sitting this thing.

Man im sick of baby sitting this thing.

Try babysitting a 4 year old and the phone at the same time. ;) Oh! And you have to be sick on top of all that! :p

I know what you mean though. I reflashed last night, almost immediately got a force close (when messaging), and reflashed again. After getting everything set up again, I'm noticing the awake bug again. I've got to go through again as see what's keeping it up now. I think I noticed that if I restart it with it charged in, I get the awake issue, but if it's unplugged when I restart it, I don't get the issue. Could just be my cold messing with me though. :o

Today, I got stuck on the side of the highway with a flat tire for 3 hours. In that time, thanks to being in the middle of nowhere with no signal and dad calling every 5 min to see if AAA had gotten there yet, my phone went from 50% to nothing. I had to run my car and waste gas to keep it on in case AAA called and said they couldn't find me or something! Blech. Most of the time it's not that bad, and I was on it a lot in a low signal area, so I'm not surprised the battery dropped that fast (expected it, I was playing with it or talking on it for 3 hours straight to keep myself from being bored), but geesh!

8, 6 and 18 month old. Just really bothering me I can't figure it out. couldn't believe the number of programs that use the calendar as the way to network. Bunch of hacks.
