2.1 Battery life went down the crapper.

battery life is better with 2.1.

It sucks because the phone shouldn't use more juice in a bad signal area. It's what killed my old motorola phone on ATT. Constantly searching and crap.

It does suck but the radio is just putting out more watts to try to capture any signal that is there so that you have the ability to get even a little bit of signal. Obviously, when you are in a no signal area, this is futile but it will make the difference in being able to get a call in or not when in a very low signal area. People who live under a cell tower can get a couple of days out of one charge. I lived within spitting distance of a tower for 6 months and the difference was just amazing.

Hope they fix that.

1.5 broke out the math for you but now you have to do it.

For those that are getting terrible battery life. Just curious. Try looking under "Battery Use"-->"Cell Standby"...what is your "Time without a signal" percentage? My battery usage was terrible today but I was in a low signal area today and have 50%.

Edit: This is for those who are using 2.1

My time without a signal is also showing 50%. I know that cannot be true. I haven't left my house since I flashed to 2.1.

My signal indicator has never shown anything higher than 2 bars. On 1.5, I would get 4 bars frequently.

Turn on Airplane Mode for about a minute and then turn off Airplane Mode. That will fix the 50% time without signal...until next time you reboot your phone. I have that same issue.

You're right on the time without a signal thing. It is definitely not working as it should because I have a very good signal where I'm at and it's showing 50%. It doesn't always do that for me just as in my example yesterday but it seems to be a magic number between a few of us. I hope that this gets fixed because it is very useful in troubleshooting battery issues.

Where do you go to check the time without a signal information?

settings>about phone>battery>battery use>press cell standby

If it says time without signal: 50% you have the 50% bug. To fix do the airplane trick: put the phone in airplane mode, put the phone to sleep for a couple of minutes, wake up the phone and then take out of airplane mode. Then you can check your signal again and it should gradually decrease to zero.

There is some debate whether this is just a reporting error glitch and isn't affecting battery life at all or whether it really is not getting signal and thus maybe be affecting battery life.
