Can we change this entire forum to the Sprint Hero 2.1 Speculation forum and just make a new one for the actual device? First person to post anything about the 2.1 update in it gets banned for life and flicked in the sack.

Sorry to hear that. I've been enjoying an excellent experience with DamageControl. I'm using it as my daily ROM, bluetooth has paired with everything I've tried, and so far all my apps are fine. What's giving you trouble? This sucks.
This damageless ROM with its never-ending bluetooth fails, hard locks and app incompatibilities is starting to drive me nuts.
And yes, I would flash back to fresh 1.1 but was hoping 2.1 would drop today!
will the 2.1 update be available to the Hero users who are NOT on sprint network?

can you teach me how to root my phone?Well, I'm not hurt too much that 2.1 didn't come out. I'm a patient person. I just rooted to Fresh 2.0c and loving it. What is 2.1??? Just root and find out. The official release will be out soon. When? Who knows?

Too bad sprint won't leak a build so that the development community can go ahead and resolve whatever issues is preventing them from releasing it.
No, this is a specific release to the Sprint Hero.will the 2.1 update be available to the Hero users who are NOT on sprint network?
The clue to all this speculation is that their has been no official word from HTC.
I could be wrong, but as I have stated in another thread, I do believe that HTC announced that 2.1 has been released by them to the carriers for their modification.
Wow, I don't even have this phone and seeing that post there makes ME mad. If the carriers have the updates, why are they not giving it to us? So they can crap-a-fy it with their apps and whatnot? That's just stupid right there.

That is what it amounts to. The "branded" portion, the carrier specific apps are what is most likely delaying release.
As far as being mad, don't forget, they are under no legal, moral or ethical obligation to even offer you the upgrade. If you bought a PC with Vista are you entitled to an upgrade to 7? Getting it at all is a courtesy.
Ahhh, no.
The cellular companies are required by LAW to fix bugs and logic problems on the phones they market. Hence, new OS's fall in that category. Especially if the old OS was shoehorned/kludged/'Sprint'ed to work. (If they can't fix, they replace - it's happened before.)
Android 1.5 on a CDMA? Yup, that was slated for a upgrade to at LEAST 1.6 no matter what. Not due to kindness - it was REQUIRED FOR PROPER OPERATION!!! Sprint decided to skip right to 2.1; now that they have agreed to do so, they NEED to come through - the phone still needs an upgrade from 1.5. It's also the ethical and moral requirement that they complete their promise.
So - Legal, ethical and moral, - Sprint is in a pickle here. And people are starting to eye their pitchforks and torches as the delays mount.
