2.1... Confirmed!!

Can we change this entire forum to the Sprint Hero 2.1 Speculation forum and just make a new one for the actual device? First person to post anything about the 2.1 update in it gets banned for life and flicked in the sack.

+1

hahahaha...

Oh, by the way...

Well, I might lose a friend now, but I had lunch today with the CEO, CFO & COO of Sprint Corp., and I can tell you the 2.1 update will be released on June 30th, 2010. While we were talking and I mentioned this Forum, they politely asked me if we could spread the word so the their CS rep's could catch a break and let the hotlines cool down some.

I just wanted you to know that it came from THE authority, so no need to question it. So take a deep breath and relax, no need to worry anymore, it will be out 1st half 2010 and Sprint aims to keep it's word!

Oh, omg, I almost forgot, Chuck Norris was there too, he ASSURED me that he would have the 2.1 update finished for us on June 30th!

This sucks.

This damageless ROM with its never-ending bluetooth fails, hard locks and app incompatibilities is starting to drive me nuts.

And yes, I would flash back to fresh 1.1 but was hoping 2.1 would drop today!

Sorry to hear that. I've been enjoying an excellent experience with DamageControl. I'm using it as my daily ROM, bluetooth has paired with everything I've tried, and so far all my apps are fine. What's giving you trouble?

Well, I'm not hurt too much that 2.1 didn't come out. I'm a patient person. I just rooted to Fresh 2.0c and loving it. What is 2.1??? Just root and find out. The official release will be out soon. When? Who knows?

can you teach me how to root my phone?

Too bad sprint won't leak a build so that the development community can go ahead and resolve whatever issues is preventing them from releasing it.

Damage has a leak of the official update. We are just waiting for him to upload a rom with minor fixes...

The clue to all this speculation is that their has been no official word from HTC.

I could be wrong, but as I have stated in another thread, I do believe that HTC announced that 2.1 has been released by them to the carriers for their modification.

Wow, I don't even have this phone and seeing that post there makes ME mad. If the carriers have the updates, why are they not giving it to us? So they can crap-a-fy it with their apps and whatnot? That's just stupid right there.

Consider yourself easily led by the fringe lunatics then ... there's nothing wrong with this phone, HTC or Sprint. ;)

That is what it amounts to. The "branded" portion, the carrier specific apps are what is most likely delaying release.

As far as being mad, don't forget, they are under no legal, moral or ethical obligation to even offer you the upgrade. If you bought a PC with Vista are you entitled to an upgrade to 7? Getting it at all is a courtesy.

Ahhh, no.

The cellular companies are required by LAW to fix bugs and logic problems on the phones they market. Hence, new OS's fall in that category. Especially if the old OS was shoehorned/kludged/'Sprint'ed to work. (If they can't fix, they replace - it's happened before.)

Android 1.5 on a CDMA? Yup, that was slated for a upgrade to at LEAST 1.6 no matter what. Not due to kindness - it was REQUIRED FOR PROPER OPERATION!!! Sprint decided to skip right to 2.1; now that they have agreed to do so, they NEED to come through - the phone still needs an upgrade from 1.5. It's also the ethical and moral requirement that they complete their promise.

So - Legal, ethical and moral, - Sprint is in a pickle here. And people are starting to eye their pitchforks and torches as the delays mount.

prove it. show me the bill that says this. Sprint sold you the phone, knowing exactly what it had. They have no legal obligation to fix any bugs on it, they have a responsibility business-wise to fix the bugs, but I don't believe there's a legal ramification. Nor will I believe this until I see such a law in writing.

I would like to see this mythical law also.

The cell companies are under no obligation what so ever to provide any operating system upgrade. As I said, this would be no different than Microsoft having to upgrade your XP or Vista o.s. to 7 when it released, no law anywhere requires this, or bug fixes for that matter. You purchased your phone with a specific o.s. on it at its current merchantability, there is not even a legal requirement to patch bugs.

As far as 1.6 being required, what about the phone is not working? Are you unable to place calls? Get texts? Email? Access the market? All these features are working, and do not require an upgrade to 1.6 for any reason, other than they want to make customers happy.
