2.1... Confirmed!!

This update has become the bane of my existence, I'm going back to bed! I have come to the conclusion that my Hero is as good as it will get. I'm going to get the N1 when it's released and all will be right with the world once more.

Dude That Damn Stupid ass Rep lied to you its thhe 26th and no 2.1 update if I was you I would call and complain give names and all that jazz because if Antonio C. wasn't sure then he should have said he was not able to pull up the info.

I wasn't aware that the 2.1 rom had Multi-Touch and landscape view when at the home screen. Or whether it fixed any problems we have now with our hero's. But its not really the rooting part im concerned about. Its about sprint not working harder on the update that we were supposed to have last year. They didn't even finish a 1.6 update... I can only imagine how long it will be for them to give us an update when 3.0 comes out...

They really aren't giving android the attention it deserves in my eyes...

Even if everything you say is 110% correct and true, you still have (almost) everything you need at hand to make it mostly a non-issue, eliminating the majority of frustration and stress you've endured over this (lack of an) update. Multi-Touch doesn't just work, it's smooth and responsive. 2.1 is so much faster and smoother than 1.5 as to not even compare, and the 1.6+ apps work great. I guess you're right about the landscaped Sense screens, DamageControl doesn't have it. I think I read in another thread that one of Darch's ROMs has it working.

Will it be better when Sprint drops an update that (hopefully) ties it all together? Yes, sure. In the meantime, you're already rooted, why not try a couple of 2.1 ROMs and find one you like. They're plenty stable and functional enough to use daily and enjoy a 2.1 preview until the release drops, when you'll become even happier. The glass is so much more than half full, why stress over the missing 1%?

Very true. I have been running the Damage rom since it was dropped and am real happy with it. I am just curious when Sprint will drop the update, but I am so content with the Damage rom that I have no problem waiting.

Why do people keep talking to customer support about the update? They don't know when it is! Most of them won't even know there WAS an update when it does come out. How do I know this? My girlfriend used to be in customer support. They didn't know a damn thing before it happened, other than what phones were coming out within the next month. They didn't know anything about updates until the day it came out. It's just pointless to keep going on chat support and asking, because they're all just blowing smoke up your ass to keep their handle times low

Lol exactly... Hence the "let me research this information, can you please give me time".

All they do is type "Android 2.1" into a database, and then they give you the pre-determined Sprint message that the screen tells them to give you. All of these people bothering Sprint chat are absurd.
 
Tatonka is correct.

I was a consultant for Sprint years ago and helped to change some of the training and policies of their contact centers.

The rep you are speaking with has access to the same information that you have. When they pull up your account, it is essentially the same thing as if you pulled it up...there is no special 'Sprint-only' access to information...at least not for the reps on the floor making $8.50/hr.

When you ask about an update, they simply search keywords and repeat verbatim what they see. Occasionally it can be escalated to a Team Leader, who would have more information based upon internal memos that denote potential issues that may come up with callers, outages etc. For instance, they are made aware of the MMS issue that people have been having and have a canned response to be given to those who ask about it.

If you are lucky, you get a rep that has your phone. In those special cases, they are always searching for information on the phone because it serves them personally.

But overall, unless it is a problem / issue that they expect an increase in call volume on, the reps have no more access to information than you do.

Perhaps people calling in today asking about 2.1 will qualify? ;)

Just a question here. Whenever this update is released, be it today or next month or whenever, Will my phone just have a box popup saying I can click to update it, or how would I know?
 
This path will get you the update the fastest for those who want it the moment it is released.

For those who could care less, Sprint will eventually push it out automatically to those customers (without customer having to check themselves for new firmware), but that could be weeks / months later.
 
Too bad sprint won't leak a build so that the development community can go ahead and resolve whatever issues is preventing them from releasing it.
 
I just finished a webchat with sprint and they didnt have a clue for the update BUT then I called the store and they said bring it in for the update and takes about an hour woo-hoo

Was the question of Android 2.1 specified in your call? Is it possible they were referring to the maintenance update from last year that fixed the messaging app battery drain issue and the clock widget DST bug?
 
Can we change this entire forum to the Sprint Hero 2.1 Speculation forum and just make a new one for the actual device? First person to post anything about the 2.1 update in it gets banned for life and flicked in the sack.
 
... and could you people who keep wasting the reps time asking questions about the update please stop!

The last thing Sprint needs is a reason to raise rates. ;)
