I guess you'll scream at me if this has been discussed, but...

According to Mobile Bulgaria, the Eclair 2.1 will be unleashed on the 2nd of April. This date is for the Heros without carriers. The rumours are that T-mobile and Orange will deliver it on 16th of April, the others - later on.

Have we heard anything from HTC? Officially?

That's Good Friday isn't it? Seems a strange day to release something in e.g. the UK seeing as half the support staff will be on leave.

I found this quote from HTC note the date.

HTC’s Chief Executive Officer, Peter Chou commented, “We are glad to be conferred with these awards and are pleased to share the prestige with our end users.”
HTC Hero is all about enhancing the mobile experience for the user. Its superior capabilities complemented by its thoughtful design elements have proven that it is a winner. Keeping users ahead of technology, HTC Hero will be upgradable to Android 2.1 from May 2010

Root it is then :-(, Im not waiting any longer, If HTC dont release 2nd April Im going to have to against my better judgement root!

I've been feeling the same lately. so many false starts for our updates. Its like being with Nokia all over again.

I'm still slightly wary of this, and although it "sounds" right, I'm not totally believing anything unless announced directly from HTC (twitter or otherwise).

Here's hoping!

It's absolutely ridiculous. I'm not impatient for 2.1 to come along, my phone works for me just fine as it is and, although I'l be happy about the new 2.1 features, I can wait.

But, in the three short months that I've had a smart phone, I've been astounded that this industry seems to see it as the accepted business model to communicate with it's customers and supporters via rumour, innuendo, leaks and half truths...totally unbelievable!!!

Why the hell they can't just officially tell us when it's coming is beyond me. Even the computer games industry makes an official 'ball park' release date for their products, and then gives a clear and firm release date nearer to the time.

Here we are, supposedly two or three short weeks away from the 2.1 update, and there's still nothing official. The best we've got is a 'semi official leak'

Astounding, it really is..

I usually avoid the 2.1 rants as I have tried some of the leaked roms and other than Nav it really isn't something to get all angry over.

But I agree that it is surprising that HTC have not spent 20 seconds firing off an email to Engadget.

Its ironic that HTC philosophy is all about looking after the customer yet Ivie found HTC to be the worst company ive come across for keeping the customer informed.
