2.1 OTA Beginning 5/11/2010

Not at all, I am a HUGE geek, but a patient one. Guess I come from the NON "I WANT IT NOW!" Generation

ROFL! Thanks! I'm enjoying this exchange. It's a good comic relief from the real life troubles that are hitting today. I hear what you are saying, and for the most part agree with you, but the technogeek in me usually wins out.

I know several emails have been posted from Verizon about this stuff but I don't recall one saying anything about the amount of people per day.

My name is Christina and I am pleased to announce the software upgrade has actually been announced today and will begin updating to Eris users starting today, May 11, 2010. Below is some additional information, for your review.

The update will occur over the air automatically and your handset will display a "system update available" in the status bar at the top of your screen and you can then opt to "restart and install" which will load your handset with the new software. It is approximately 78 megabytes and you will not be able to use the phone while the update is processing and it can take approximately five to ten minutes.

Please keep in mind that the update will occur incrementally in that only 10,000 users will be updated in that first day and the number will increase each day until all of the phones have been updated. So if you are not updated right away, you can rest assured that you will be soon enough as the updates are pushed through the system each day.

You can visit www.verizonwireless.com/droiderissupport for details on what this update brings as well as view the step by step screenshots of what you will see and need to do during the upgrade process.

I am very sorry for the delay and thank you for your patience with us while this upgrade was created. Both Verizon Wireless and HTC needed to make sure the handset was both as stable and ran as smooth (as a handset and for network use) as the other Droid handsets that utilize the 2.1 software.

Giggidy, giggidy, gig-gi-dy goo!"

For all those who have received the OTA...why haven't you done what is explained in the following link (obviously if you didn't know, then not your fault)?

Leakers about the OTA - xda-developers

Please, if you can, do this. If you do, there is no more waiting for the OTA and everyone can just install it directly to their phone. Also, it gives the devs something to work with to look at possibly rooting the official 2.1.

Do this when you get the update notification and there will be NO MORE waiting for everyone!

I just got the Google maps notification that people were discussing in this thread yesterday, but when I try to update it, it keeps saying 'download unsuccessful'. Anyone have an idea why? I have 2.1 v.1 BTW, dont know if that has something to do with it.
Known bug. We think there was an issue with the update and they pulled it.

remember what i said about me readin a lot of post and knowing who to listen too.... nestor is one i listen too

very well thought out, you very well may be right.

The only question I have though is the cell standby/time without a signal issue. Framework from XDA pointed out that the reason for this bug is that it defaults to GSM instead of CDMA and apparently either going through his instructions or doing the airplane mode trick fixes the bug. This issues still exists in v3, would Verizon not have fixed this?

Ok then, what will are the improvements from the leak to the OTA?

Those things will come into view with time; the more Eris users who receive the OTA the more comparative data we'll see posted in here.

One thing has been repeatedly posted in here is that the leaks, including the last one, are not the same as the OTA, even though there are commonalities in identification numbers between v3 and the OTA; they are different sizes, etc. The software is different despite those hollering that v3 is the OTA; they are mistaken.

I do not have the root, I have the 2.1 v3 leak. When I called verizon I tryed to ask them if the update was available, and the woman told me that I already had the 2.1 update. I just want the official one already.

Unless you told them you were running the leak I don't believe they have the ability to know what you are running on the phone without checking the about screen on your handset.

I am starting to believe OTA is the same as the v3 leak now that someone with OTA has reported the signal issue exists.
Which is disapointing to me because I was fine with 1.5 and held out hoping that the official OTA would be something better.

Yes, it will be "sent out". That doesn't mean your phone will accept it.

I'm anxiously awaiting the OTA update. V3 has been very laggy for me. If I don't see confirmation on this forum soon, I'm going to flash back to v2 (assuming that's possible).

Unfortunately, it's not. I tried it and got an error basically telling me that I could not flash an older version.

the signal issue, although annoying for us that know, really has no effect on the handset i dont think

only problem i had with V2 was the laggy dialer, V3 fixed that (for me)

no no no not saying that at all WHAT I AM SAYING IS that now eris is officially on 2.1 so you could go into the store and say your phone is not running right after upgrade so they should be able to replace but again this is my opinion

But since I already did the 2.1 leak..didn't my warrenty get void? So now I cannot go back and say its defective.

leak 3 numbers look the same and unless you say something about loading a leak then shouldnt be a problem but dont go in there saying i said so never know unless you try though huh ??

I did the *#*#checkin*#* and it found the update (thanks for that info by the way) and the download took about 10-15 mins and I feel like I have a new phone.

Dude they don't have to do it if they don't want to. You keep saying "why haven't you done what is explained", like its an order that they HAVE to do this for everyone else.

Chill out.

certainly confused. So those people who have the update how much internal phone space do you have before the update?

Do i really need to delete apps

i tweeted about only having 30mb left on my internal memory and he said the file is 77mb and that i need to make room

"Yes you will need 77.7 MB of free space for the update. *ZC" from vzsupport twitter

so is this true

yeah, agree tony

its ok man, we will all get it.

o and im pretty sure the "checkin" doesnt work for an ota update, just app updates.

the instructions on xda were kind of confusing for me ( i read them dont have update yet ) but maybe if i get prompted for update YOU can walk me thru it since you have so been adamantly pushing for someone to do this rest assured we are ALL waiting like kids waiting on santa just not everyone knows how to work with sdk or whatever i myself have downloaded it twice and still dont know where its even at on my computer ( a little embarrased but HONEST )
