2.1 OTA Beginning 5/11/2010

go to the thread called must have apps and then you can get swype i got it just dont know what it does or how to use it :(

make sure you have barcode scanner or some app so you can just scan the qr code much much easier !!

Clicking on the link from your phone is just as easy if not easier.

As far as swype goes... do the tutorial that comes with it. Once you get used to it you won't be able to live without! Make sure to follow the instructions for download. The "Swype available for Eris" thread has step by step instructions and the new working version is on the last page, I believe.
 
To all who have already received the OTA... Can you confirm that it resets your home screens and settings back to stock? I know the apps remain, and contacts will re-sync... Just curious about these other settings.

If it does revert to stock home screens, might as well install the manual update since it does the same thing... at least that's my thinking ;)

Yes home screen and settings go back to stock, apps stay there, so should contacts.

p.s. by the way i manually downloaded OTA, there same might as well, worked like a charm.
 
Does anybody know if all 3 links of the v3 download are good? I'm, on v.2 and want to download v3 in case I don't get OTA. V2 works great except for the apps that won't connect to the internet.

I mean its the exact same thing you will be getting through the notification....if you guys want it that bad you can just download it and get the OTA started.

I'm wondering if those who have installed that linked 2.1 (OTA) file will still be offered the OTA via notification from Verizon, and if so, will the notifications persist until installation of the OTA is allowed by the user.
 
I'm still waiting it out for the official OTA. I've been waiting a long time and there's no reason to give in now to any of the unofficial methods considering I should be getting it any time now.
 
I was thinking about that the day the ota link was available. Somehow vzw has a method of knowing that your already in 2.1 (ota, I supposed, thats why I think vzw is saying that leakers will get ota because somehow the leaks does not get registered to vzw as 2.1 phones, and stay like 1.5) but im not sure of this info, i know I read about it here in one of the forums.

And I dont think manual ota does that if thats the case, but will see about that. No problem for me if I get the ota while running the manual ota, ota manual or not it only erases your home setup and your paired bluetooth devices, ohh and messes a little with your contacts (linking them to all the social crap possible...) it even keeps most of the settings that you had on 1.5, I was amazed...

Looking at my co workers OTA he had little dots like rain falling on his home screen then a windsheild wiper would come down and wipe the dots away. Is this not live wall paper? If it isn't what is it?

That's just the stock weather application. It's in 1.5 also.

I got the OTA this morning from 1.5. The home screen reset itself, but everything re-synced itself within 20 mins or so. All my apps stayed, my contacts re-synced, and my settings stayed the same (ringtones, etc.). Navigation works great, no live wallpapers, and no speech to text, at least not yet. maybe in a patch. who knows.

My stock weather app doesn't work right anymore. when I try to force it to update, the screen goes black and the phone freezes. Multiple presses of the Home button finally brings me back to the home screen. Was there a bug fix for this?
