Root 2.1 rom here

the CM 5 stable release should be out in a few days:

What’s Coming Next.. | CyanogenMod

Test 6 is running great for me right now. I try to wipe every two or three ROM upgrades, so maybe that's helped me not have many issues. I also do not do any of the extras like swap, compcache, apps2sd, etc.

OK, I feel kinda stupid for having to ask this but I have been searching like crazy for the past day and can't find the info I need. I attempted to flash the CM 5.0.7 last night but when I booted up the phone all the core apps where missing. I saw that i had missed the DRC83 part and tried again and had the same thing happen. I am currently running Super D and I'm just wondering if i need to redo the recovery image and put it to the cm recovery image. Thanks guys.

No, the recovery image doesn't have anything to do with it, in fact Cyanogen doesn't use or support the CM recovery image, himself. I use Amon-Ra's.

What the problem was is that you didn't flash the Gapps zip. Look here for Google Add-on. Download that and flash after the CM rom.

Ok, so i finally figured out what i was doing wrong. I have never done a cyanogenmod before, so i started searching through every post i could find about installing and updating. I found that you have to do the gapps update AFTER you do the 5.0.7 update. nothing I had read said to do it in that order so thats what was causing the problem. I feel kinda dumb now, but its up and running. Lets see how it works now!

Dude, not to rub it in, but that's exactly what I said in my last post.

i did flash it, i just flashed it first. that was the whole problem, everything I was reading made it seem like you had to flash gapps first then cm. But I understand now, I'm still fairly new to the android scene but I'm getting there. Thanks for the help though.

Yeah, sounds like you were reading the instructions for installing the CM 1.6 rom, which required you to flash the google apps (DRC83) first.

But in the new CM 2.1 (5.0.7) rom you flash gapps second. Glad you got it worked out.

can anyone give me some help. im running super d and an super pumped to run this cyanogen mod (test 7). can i get a quick refresh on the steps i need to take to flash this app. any specifics on the SD as well?

1. Nandroid backup
2. WIPE
3. flash ROM
4. flash gapps

No need to do anything to your SD card. Or at least I didn't when I upgraded from CM 4 to CM 5.

i have amon ra recovery....no recovery backup? also do i just wipe everything? thanks for your help. btw what is nandroid backup. i understand it is a way to backup but where do i get it?

also when it says wipe, must i wipe every option? i only did a data and factory reset. it loaded fine, but it still had my apps and stuff like that on the phone. is that a problem?

just do the factory wipe and reset, then flash the cm then the gapps second, not the drc83. gapps is a new download for this setup. It was nice, and definitely one of the fastest 2.1 roms, but for me id rather have something a bit speedier. I multitask alot so have more wait between apps and what not drives me crazy. on that note, anyone know of any good speedy roms?

I just thought of something, would installing the gapps file over other roms that dont have some of those core apps work or would it mess something up?

... btw what is nandroid backup. i understand it is a way to backup but where do i get it?

nandroid is included in the amon_ra recovery. so you would boot into recovery (power+home) and then select the backup option (i can't remember the exact name) and then Nand backup.

It makes a full system backup and is always a good idea to do before flashing a new ROM. That way if something goes wrong, you can boot into recovery and restore your nandroid backup.

I'm not sure why you still had your apps. When instructions say to "Wipe" it usually refers to booting into recovery and selecting wipe > wipe data/factory reset

When I do that I always loose my apps and have to re-install them.

Anyway, it's usually a good idea to wipe when switching ROMs. (i.e. going from Super D to CM). But you don't have to wipe if you're just upgrading a version (i.e. CM 5.0.7 Test6 to CM 5.0.7 Test7).

BTW - the Stable release of CM 5.0.7 is out!

Okay having an issue here. My phone is rooted MyT3G and than I just unzip the cm 5.0.7 stable and put it on...now I turn phone off - holding Home and power I get this triangle icon with a ! and a phone..nothing has happened yet...been like that for a few minutes...

What am I doing wrong?

*** I got into a blue recovery mode and three options..

Wipe (which I did)
update from sdcard/update
and reboot

But I can't seem to load the ROM.....

you dont unzip the file, you leave them zipped and just put the zip folder on the main portion of the sd card, not in any other folder. I hope you didnt brick it, I can't remember if thats one of the few brickable offenses. ill be on yahoo messenger for a bit, feel free to im me

Well I personally went to market and got the ROM Manager by clockwork. I have successfully install 5.0.7 and google apps..but my question is..where is swype?

Rom manager seems like too much of a gimmick to me.

My advice would be to flash Amon Ra's recovery ... everything is straight forward.
