Help 2.1 update HELP!!

Hi all , I have the hero (gsm) but I never the ota 2.1 update. I have tried flashing it over from pc but it deosnt work. I tried factory reset still didn't work and tried changing the date. As recommended by a few ppl but still no luck. As I can't get it to flash over from pc I need the ota update. Can anyone tell me how I can get this please.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
 
You're probably not on the most recent 1.5 firmware, which is required to get the 2.1 OTA update. Unfortunately updating to the right 1.5 would still involve using a PC.

What's your build number in settings >> about phone?
 
Forgot to say that I have heard something about a *# dance. Anybody know what this is.

Yeah, if you type *#*#2432546#*#* (*#*#CheckIn#*#*) into the dialer and call it, it will check for updates. But if changing the date didn't do it, neither will the code.

The problem is you're on old firmware (there were several firmwares based on android 1.5). So you need this firmware before the OTA update will be sent to you.

What error code do you get when you try to install that firmware?
 
Can't remember wot error code was it was a while ago now. Thanks for help I will try and get the 1.5 upgrade to work and see what happens.
 
I try to update it almost everyday to 2.1 but my phone says there is no update (i updated over the air). I'm confused on what to do. I cant do it via pc because I have a MAC (talk about gettin' f***ed over). Any ideas you guys can recommend???:confused::(
