2.1 update

Since we are waiting for the 2.1 update anyways, its too bad they couldnt add the additional home screens like what was mentioned when talking about features of 2.1.

There is a lot to look forward to in the near future - unfortunately, it cant come quick enough.

  • 2.1 will probably come in the near future (hopefully next month).
  • flash will come this summer
  • slingbox application will come this summer
  • skyfire browser will also come this summer
 
For me, personally, I don't even want the 2.1 update to come because I'm running an awesome 2.1-based ROM right now and I know once the official OTA comes I'll feel compelled to (sadly) unroot my phone to get it.

However, for the sake of everyone who is actually looking forward to it, I do hope it comes soon.

so does this section have 100000 threads about WHEN is the update,
and how many threads like...my brothers girl friends uncle that knows a guy that lives with a woman that dated a man that is a father of a tech that said it will be out in 2 weeks.

Why Slick...why? Fight the urge...you are going to cause yourself 1-2 hours worth of work just to end up back where you are! :D

I feel really bad for the non-rooters. 3 screens? Really? If I cared to run stock I would be protesting the morons who are not incorporating at least 5 screens into the update. Just no reason for it. Back in the day (3 months ago) I was running 6 screens with GDE without issue...no lag...no problem. I just don't get why you wouldn't add the extra screens. Motorola and Verizon are just begging people to root!

No you're incorrect...I know that guy too as he is my Father's 2nd cousin's dog-groomer's accountant's best friend in the whole world...he said it will be here in 3 weeks. Not 2 weeks...check you source and post only reliable data! :D

Exactly.

Except we know a guy that works graveyard at Dunkin Donuts whose girlfriend knows a guy that works for a shredding company who knows a guy that shreds documents for Verizon and knows a co-worker that does the same thing for Motorola. They have confirmed that the update will come on the second Tuesday of the second week of the 14th month of the Chinese year of the Snake. What more information do you need?

No, I am not asking for when 2.1 will come - as no one knows. The big question Motorola and Verizon isn't answering is: Why the delay? Is there going to be a surprise that they can't tell us about? Are they afraid because two-fingered pinch zooming (multitouch?) may trigger lawsuits from Apple, as adding this to the Droid is the equivalent of crossing the Rubicon?

I'm concerned that 2.1 (whenever it comes) does not give us enough control over our phones - such as controlling font size, and allowing us to lock certain volumes - such as notification and ringer - from accidental adjustment. (or, am I missing things with my aged eyes?)

No, I've been running 2.1 for almost a month now. I've still never received an OTA update, probably never will.
 
I'm surprised no one's released a game app called "TwoPointOne" where you go postal with a shotgun in a Verizon headquarters and just start blasting people.
I just can't believe the mob mentality causing all the hype surrounding this really, really insignificant update.

"Jesus is coming in 2012!"
"No he's not."
"Yes, he is. and you're gonna be really sorry!"
"No, he's not, and you're gonna be really disappointed."

I read that the update was delayed because it was discovered the delivery network (not Verizon's but from between Motorola and Verizon) couldn't handle the volume needed to update all devices reliably in a timely manner. I don't recall where I read that, it may have been in one of the other 100 threads on here about the update...
 
They could stream it out, a little at a time, so as to not overload the system. Still, this is really giving Verizon a black eye, I think... I will believe it's here, a week after we have the ota update. Rooted once, on my 1st Eris, but it died (not cuz of the rooting), and had to get a fresh one on Sat.
Fingers crossed for 2.1 in my lifetime... :-)
 
in korea the motoroi is updating to 2.1 on April 6. Since the internals are pretty much the same, I would think that it wouldnt be too far off from that date.
 
What to h... is "rooting", anyway?
