2.11.605.5 OTA Update Has Started

Well thanks to the craptastic battery life in this thing, I had DATA turned off and was running in WiFi when the update started around 9pm. Needless to say the update failed and it hasn't made another attempt. Like others, it won't DL manually.

This is another example of how "managing" battery life sucks. Put 12 hour batteties in phones running wide open with max settimgs. I know, I know...quit whining, it'll never happen. *sigh*

Edit: Anyone know if the update will be resent to devices attempted and failed?

The last update I lost my data connection halfway thru the download and it did the same thing, wouldn't download right away. I tried again a few hours later and it downloaded. Now if THIS one will just download, I'll be happy. I'm still getting the service not available error

Still waiting on my update. As mentioned many times in other posts, the order that people receive the updates has nothing to do with location. That's why like the one post above the poster has the update but his/her son right there does not. I find it interesting that everytime an update comes out people put so much emphasis on "where" people are getting the updates and then wondering why someone in the same town has it and they don't.

Emphasis added..

Regarding that, I visit the Acer Iconia forum here, I LOVE seeing people noting where they are when updates come out and it's downloading for them. How would location make ANY difference on a device that is WiFi ONLY! I agree that too much emphasis is put on location and not enough on IMEI or ESN number or build date.

I'm getting Service unavailable also (with the first GB OTA), but a co-worker (who installed the leak of the same OTA I have) is just getting that there's no new updates.

Also just did a manual check and it was there. Downloading now...will try to check if vm notification issue is fixed. :)

I'm pretty sure this is the same as on android police. I read somewhere that HTC blocked the manual update option because it was causing issues, and that we have to wait for the ota to hit our regions.
you may be right. When I tried to check manually last night, it said no update available. I rejected the first initial Gb meccha update. Around 9:20pm without warning device management took over and did its thing. 40mins later Android 2.34 along with Htc Sense 2.1 was installed. I'd guess Verizon and HTC swears on this release in order to bully this update upon us without warning and or giving us the chance to see what others would have to say about it. Froyo played nice with my thunderbolt, hoping Gingerbread does the same. Correction, hoping GB does even better. BTW it was mentioned that location matters not. For those of you that disagree, this is NYC. I have a relative in FL. that received the update as well. One...

I wish the color of the status bar would change or battery, I do not want to root, I wouldn't know the first thing about it and the last time I tried it screwed up my phone

I was worried after receiving the "Service Unavailable" error that something was really screwed up in my phone, so this is a note to all of you out there that received the error, that it just took some time. After a manual check, I got the update. (I was using the .3 Gingerbread build that messed up VM notifications.) Total time to download and apply the update over 4G was well under 5 mins.

That is because you accepted the initial 1st Gb update. I rejected the 1st update so it took 40mins on 3g, which I had my data off, so i guess 3g was forced on by Verizon. Did you or anyone get bumped up to Sense 2.1? If so go to the clock widgets and notice a new widget that has the clock with facebook updates and notifications as opposed to the clock with the weather. One...
