Neither of those are known at the time. Many people around here heard about the international version of the Galaxy S getting 2.2 on Sept. 23rd and just assumed that all Galaxy S phones were getting it then. This is not the case despite the fact that most seem to think so. Neither Samsung or AT&T have given any official word so for right now it is all speculation.
my GPS works LIKES a CHAMP! its VERY accurate...cant wait for this this gps issue is killing me.
My desire for Froyo v2.2 has cooled a bit. Not that I'm not eager to upgrade, but in the meantime I've got Eclair nicely optimized. Running far better than I ever guessed it would, I'm quite pleasantly surprised. Reasonably fast, very stable and smooth I have no problems of consequence. The more I use Android the better I like it.
After fully optimizing my Droid X via rooting and many other mods, I decided to challenge myself to obtain maximum performance out of my Captivate without rooting it to start. After applying a one click lag fix, as well as several other tweaks, I must say it turned out quite nice.I'm guessing you're rooted and have done some kind of lag fix?
Does the upgrade to Froyo mean a new system installation with lost of all data and apps ect?Neither of those are known at the time. I have several friends with Captivates. We all went down to AT&T together. Two of us have not experienced an issue with GPS, so it's not all that are affected.I keep on seeing post about the GPS issue which I don't have a problem with Been using it for the past 3 days with no problem with locking on to sats

My Captivate GPS worked beautifully the first weekend I had it - on clear cloudless days - after taking 2 minutes for the first lock it would lock in about 5 seconds every time I turned the GPS back on. It worked great between two states - never lost the satellites once locked.
Later that week I tried to use it again on a slightly overcast night and the thing simply would not get a GPS lock - I actually arrived at my destination (maybe a 45 minute drive) reading turn-by-turn directions on the screen and the GPS was still trying to find satellites.
Maybe it is extremely sensitive to weather conditions? That could partially explain why people are having such varied results.

The first week I had my phone- my GPS worked great...almost immediate lock, and accurate per visuals.
By beginning of week 3- locking my location was taking longer, and it was showing me to be up to 7 or 8 miles from where I really was- both work and at home. I did have the box ticked for use Wireless for apps.
My 30 day test drive was up on the 18th, and I returned mine. It was a good phone- but just didn't do it for me yet. I have cancelled my contract and gone back to my RAZR2 V9X on the $10/month family line until I see Captivate improvements- or if something better comes out.
I just wasn'r ready to lock in until I see improvements
