Help 2.29.405 software update - wi-fi bye-bye

nah dont worry, like you said you got that info from the RUU

have you attempted to do a factory reset?

it might just work now you have a gold card

I'm about do do it as well, got the PB99IMG.zip on the root of the card.

Here are my questions:
- Should I "wipe" the card and have only that on?
- Should I do a "factory reset"?
- How about my apps, are they all going to be reinstalled automatically or will I have the chance to do a "cleanup" and install only those I really really want?!
- Any last minute suggestions on what to take note of or backup?

Sorry for the newbie questions...

Thanks,

Thanks,

you will lose all apps, doing this method wipes the entire phone back to when it came out of the box
you will have to relocate the apps
you dont have to wipe the sdcard, just make sure the file is called PB99IMG.zip and is on the root of the card

Thanks mate :)

Factory reset then try a reload via HTC Sync?

Cheers
Kav

ive never used htc sync

eitherway if factory reset doesnt work, flashing a new image will wipe the device also so you might aswell take the risk of wiping. may save some heartache

Got you.

Might wait for the zip jobber to download and do it straight from the SD card.

Thanks again.

Cheers

Doesn't like it either way...

RUU = Load error
zip = no image or invalid image

There's got to be a way to get wi-fi back.

Maybe my gold card's screwed? I'm not getting the format message when I load it up - I just get the option to open Windows Explorer etc..

Cheers

Hi Rastaman-FB, I'd like to thank you very much for your help in fixing my device.

Everyting is working fine now and my Wi-Fi is back online.

Now that I was "forced" to re-image, I'm back to the stock - bare system - and I can't help wonder it it would be possible for me to "uninstall" some of the stock apps that come with the HTC Desire, like Facebook, Flickr, Peep and the base RSS reader just to name a few.

Is that possible on an unbranded but not rooted phone?

Thanks

2.29.405.5 must be a slightly newer build than 2.29.405.2 (which was leaked a few months before the OTA went out)

I'd say it's the latest stock RUU for unbranded WWE Desires

it not the goldcard, your 2.29 version is a higher build for some reason.
you have 3 options

take the pb99img off your device (keep it safe)
read this http://androidforums.com/htc-desire/231974-wifi-after-version-2-29-405-2-a.html#post1967353

flash the vodaphone build
or
use teppics dowgrade utility to put a 2.1 version on so you can flash the 2.2 correctly
bit of a pain in the ass but i dont know anyone that has not been successful doing the latter

try the 1st one

Thx matey

I'll do that in the order you suggest. BTW, I rooted my device last night via the Unrevoked3 method which was a piece of cake. Is that likely to make the re-flash process easier?

Cheers again.

no youve just made using the 1st option impossible
you cannot flash an ota patch over the top of a rooted device, it breaks the phone
the other two will remove anything root you have

may i ask why you did this when your phone isnt working properly? you just killed and easy way out if you read option 1!!!

well you might aswell flash a custom rom instead now as you are rooted
[ROM] [18/12] Pre-rooted Stock Froyo (2.29.405.2) [Optional mods] - xda-developers
make sure you have at least 50% battery life
put the zip on your sdcard, boot to recovery (voldown+power click recovery)
factory reset
flash zip from sdcard
wait patiently

Yeah - had a moment of extreme dullness/boredom/stupidity. I always fancied a non-stock ROM but you're right, I should've got the original snag sorted first. Still, you live and learn :o

I'll have a crack at the non-stock ROM this afternoon.

Thanks again

Cheers

wont take long its the same version but its rooted
the top one is the one thats just rooted stock
if you want a2sd+ choose the init.d one but you will need to partition your card

I am running a HTC Desire Debranded phone.
I ran the OTA update to 405.2 and stuffed my WiFi too.
I did not have a Gold Card in the phone when I ran it though.
I downloaded the stock ROM from Shipped ROMS and reloaded using a Gold Card and all was fixed, but wiped my phone of course.

Does anyone have any solid info in the difference bewtween 405.2 and 405.5 as I noticed this new build on the shipped ROM web site but unsure if it is legit or correct for the HTC Desire.
File names are:
RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.2_Radio_32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_151783_signed.exe
RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.5_Radio_32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_159811_signed.exe

it is legit, no one has solid info on what theyve changed or improved
the ota version of it are being rolled out atm

no problem using the gold card to do this, my day to day card is a goldcard

this will have 0.93hboot mate

the file you are downloading should be called
PB99IMG_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.2_Radio_32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_151783_signed.zip

hey there,

i tried installing that with my goldcard, but no success.

i went into recovery mode, chose update.zip and got error "E:signature verification failed" Installation aborted.

what's the case? i should actually unbranded phone.

Two things
Are you rooted?
Did you read my instructions as of you had, you wouldn't have called it update.zip.
If you are rooted this will remove root
