Root 2.3.3 Backup...need help!!

K, im completely new to this rooting and flashing roms, but i've read LOTS of posts on this forum, trying to get as much knowledge as possible and to be honest its pretty exciting to me lol...There are just a few things im wondering about before i attempt rooting my phone.

I saw the guide thread for rooting GB 2.3.3 and i have that one bookmarked to d/l the files needed so im good there i think...

The things im unsure about are, How do you make a backup of the stock ROM? i mean is there an app that does that before rooting the phone, or do you have to root the phone then somehow back it up? I just want to be able to go back to completely stock in case i broke the phone and had to turn it in for a new one. I already bought Titanium Backup Pro and Busybox Installer Pro and have them on my phone but cant use them obviously because im not rooted. Is there any other apps i should have before i root?

Also i've read posts of people having bigger SD cards...i have the one that came in the phone which i believe is a 7 or 8 gb card...will that one work or does it need to be bigger??

Any info would be greatly appreciated...Im pretty anxious to root my phone but a lil hesitant at the same time lol...i just have a feeling i'll mess it up somehow!!

8 Gig is fine for now but you may find that u need a bigger SD card later.

Use clockwork or amon Ra recovery to make a nandroid backup of your current rom. Turn your device off ... press the "down" volume button along with the power button to access recovery. Use down button to scroll through the options.

1. Select Recovery
2. Then select Backup/Restore
3. Backup
4. Return/ then reboot system.

Now you will have snapshot of your current info. You can go to the root of your sd card in " nandroid" file to rename the file whatever you want. Dont use any spaces when renaming or it wont work or backup.

I saw quite a few posts saying that the Amon Ra was better than clockwork....Ok so do i have to root the phone first to do the backup? Or do you put the Amon Ra zip file on the SD card from my computer then do the steps that you just said above? I guess thats where im lost. Thanks for the info up top too, that will help lots

ok

1.nandroid backups are a complete snapshot of your phone. it is all done in recovery. once you are rooted you will have a recovery. read the guide again. i have instructions there on how to make a nandroid backup.
2.apps are also listed in the guide as well
3.you do not have to partition your card. certain roms are pretty big though so. it will depend on what rom you choose.

hope that helps:)

yah that makes it a little more clear....thanks...do you by chance happen to have a guide on how to flash a rom? They show a video how to on htcevohacks.com but i just like being able to read a guide....also they have A LOT of roms to d/l and i dont even know what i want to go with yet...Any suggestions on whats the best in your opinion?? Or maybe the most popular?

thanks for the help

research a bunch of roms first and decide whether or not u would be more suited for a aosp or sense based rom. When your ready to flash come back ... we will be here.

thanks for the help

you know what i will add that to the gingerbread guide bu here it is in a nutshell:
1.download your rom of your choice
2.download ZZZVR_SUPERWIPE.zip file. more on this later
3.place the files on the card
4.go into recovery
5.make a nandroid backup
6.wipe data, dalvik cache, and cache
7.select install .zip from sdcard.
8.select vr superwipe file. this wil wipe temp files as well as system, data, boot three times. makes your phone really clean for your rom to install in.
9.select your rom and flash it.
10reboot

1st boot will take a bit longer as it has to build dalvik cache. so be patient.

hope that helps.
