2.3.3 update

Has everybody got this update already? It seems I remember hearing about it awhile back, well today it was pushed to my commando. It's a pretty incremental update it would seem. Not sure what's diff. Maybe better battery, that's always nice. Hopefully nothing strange or worse. Was hoping for ICS.
So anyone else get it on? I checked verizons site and doing a search for something like this is like pulling teeth. If I notice anything I'll repost.

Wow... That was nerve racking... Just got rebooted from update. It must have taken five minutes to reboot, thought it was screwed or something.

I got the Gingerbread 2.3.3 update back in October. There isn't a big difference from Froyo 2.2. I rooted after that. I doubt we'll see ICS on this phone. I think it'll appear on the Commando 2.

Yeah, I thought this had been out awhile. This is very incremental like .1
Second GB update tho. ICS is the wildcard.;)

It's probably some type of maintenance release. If you are running GNM's recovery it will fail. It will download and the phone will reboot into the custom recovery but it won't install because the recovery doesn't know how. Hope it's nothing important...

probably not.

cbreeze, what are the versions?
(Android version, baseband version, kernal version)

Mine was version 2.3.3 before the update today, i didn't note the kernel version, so it was a very small incremental update as it didn't affect the version number.

Thanks for the link. Doesn't look like I'm missing out on anything

It does not change kernel version...Just build. Notable difference it displays a readout if the proximity sensor is activated ie during a phone call. Also protection from a certain bug/malware we we're vulnerable to.

and I have now lost root. damn thing updated in my pocket! so annoyed.
Just wondering, but did you remove or freeze your bloatware. It seems to have made a difference as to update ability on the last upgrade.

I downloaded the update a few nights back, before I let the update start I unfroze all my bloat and removed superuser. After the update was done the only difference I noticed was I lost root. Other then that I noticed no change and was able to root my phone again using the script.

I had not. deleted anything, only froze. funny thing is, its all still froze, and I do not have root or busybox anymore.

How do you remove superuser? I don't see it in Titanium to uninstall or in settings/applications/manage applications.

Does removing bloatware and any system apps affect the upgrade? My fiance removed some system apps after i rooted her commando and now the software upgrade wont go through. Shes still on 2.1
If thats the case, do i have to reinstall all the system apps she removed?

Many of us have found if you uninstalled any of the bloatware then the phone will not accept updates even if you restore them. There must be some type of checksum that is affected, no one is sure why. Basically I called Verizon and complained and they sent me a CLN device. Just make sure you restore everything before sending it back. 2.3.3 on the Commando is nothing to get excited about.

Yes, i am.
Well thats crap. Guess il have to push everything back onto it.

If the casio had an external usb device driver, we could hook up a mini usb cable and a keyboard to the commando to access recovery from a shutdown device. That would make development way easier on a all touch device.

My update also went through, but I lost my superuser and root. My buddies phone bricked on the install of the update. Why I don't know, but I suspect he removed things instead of freezing them. He is battling with Verizon for a new phone. They gave him a temp one to use until his new "reman" phone comes. I figure they are going to get his phone and check it out before hand and he's going to be screwed.
