Big change in video playback

Avi files with Xvid containers now play!

WMV files play correctly

Videos with more the 2 channels will now acually play instead of just erroring out
but audio doesn't work

general video playback is smoother

Incoming message notification while outputting HDMI video seems to be mostly broken now, only saw it popup once out of a dozen texts.

I had to try visionary three times in order for it to finally work...give it a couple of trys. Thrid time might just work! GL.
Did visionary temp root three times and still can't get into root explorer...
And z4root ran and rebooted and still no root. I give up for now I guess.

I realize that. The link I provided is what worked for me to root. I was merely pointing out that z4root could then unroot the phone if I so chose.
I understand. I tried it anyway.
When I got here

mount -o rw,remount -t ext3 /dev/block/mmcblk1p21 /system

It says "cannot fork"

Try a 30 sec battery pull and the reboot and try again. Sometimes it can be very stubborn but usually will work. Just may take a few times...

I posted this in another thread but thought I would also share the results (so far) of my upgrade here:

Screens seem to scroll smoother, WiFi showing 4 instead of 3 bars, Batt Mgr not F/C'ing now versus just before the OTA. I'll have to spend some time on my DX over the next few days to really see what improvements are on the phone, though.

I did the upgrade early this morning (about 1AM) and didn't stay up much longer after. No problems with the actual download/upgrade though - Got the OTA in under a minute and was fully upgraded in less than 5. Just tried the Batt Mgr again, no F/C - "works like a charm".

Maybe my battery life has been doubled again!?! :D

Note: Not Rooted, no custom ROMs, just a stock DX with a ton of apps...

Update downloaded but failed to install twice. I'm running Froyo, rooted & deodexed (928). Using Titanium, I defrosted my frozen apps and still no success.

Anyone else (rooted no custom ROM) having this issue and figured it out?
I had the same issue (not deodexed though) and I never figured it out.

But after doing an sbf and data wipe, I thought of 2 other things I had done that could have blocked the install.

Keyboard manager from xda. I had to use root explorer to force a file somewhere into the system.

More likely, I think I could have been homesmack and the long press search hack. That replaces voicesearch.apk with a custom one.

You use either of those?

What 3G hotspot trick?

There is a simple way without an app. Turn on 3G Mobile hotspot. Then in settings, data manager, data delivery, toggle "Data Enabled" off, wait a few seconds, and then turn back on. You now have a mobile hotspot. It does violate TOS with verizon, but you don't get charged for it.

If you figure it out let me know. I've been trying to all morning :/

You need to get z4root.1.1.0.apk and use it. I tried z4root.1.3.0.apk and it did not root my DX. Also, the process may take 10-15 minutes and make sure your DX is not connected to your PC. Wait until your phone reboots and you're good to go.

Camera now has a movable focus window.
Phone dialer app allows you to type the contact's name to find the number.
Better battery life.
