Root 2.3 After Root

Did some searching but couldn't find anything conclusive regarding my question.

I rooted my DX (2.2) on it using Super One Click. All I've done is remove all of the bloatware that was installed on the phone. No custom roms where uploaded and I haven't overclocked the phone. Hypothetically, if a new firmware version were to be released, would I have any issue applying the OTA (should one be pushed to our phones)? Will getting an OTA (again, hypothetically) brick my phone?

no brick. It just won't work unless you reinstall bloat. However, it's easy to go back to 2.2 OTA with sbf. :)

Can you be a little more specific as far as "it won't work"?

And can you please refer me to a link where I can read on how to flash the phone using SBF (not sure what that acronym means). Unfortunately I didnt make a backup before rooting my device.
 
no problem. sbf puts everything back to normal. "it won't work" means that the upgrade won't happen as it is looking to update you bloatware that is missing.

SBF is a file that will totally restore your phone back to the 2.2. You have to instl RSDLite and download the droid x sbf file. You open up the sbf file in the rsdlite. Hook up your telephone to the computer. startup the phone into maintanence mode (or whatever you call it) by pressing the start button and the volume down button at the same time.

Hit "start" on rsdlite and you're golden. It's really easy. Please feel free to ask more questions. We welcome them and welcome to the root club. :D
 
Thanks. I fix computers and I'm trying to get more of an understanding on the Android OS and everything related.

Where can I locate the 2.2 SBF file? And RSDlite? Is that an application made by those geniuses over at XDA? :P
 
Hey, bumping this thread with a few more questions with the advent of Gingerbread possibly coming in the next few days.

I did some poking around at the above website and it said that it wasn't the full SBF. What does that mean to me? Does that mean that if I flash to the SBF, I still wont be able to recieve the OTA update?

Again, all I've done is removed some bloatware and havent been able to get around to overclocking my processor. I'm starting to regred going through the hassle without even getting the full benefits of rooting :P
 
Also, I have a few apps on my phone that are not available in the market anymore. How can I make a backup of said app just in case something should happen to my phone?
