Root 2.3 Leaked Update Questions

chmodx

Android Enthusiast
I've gotten some mixed information and would like to have a few specific questions answered simply.

Please explain like you would to a small child. I'm slow.

I'm NOT rooted. I don't want to be. I'll err on the side of caution and keep my warranty in tact.

1. Where can I download the correct update.zip from now? The original link appears dead.

2. When the official OTA does roll out, will my phone still accept it?

3. What glitches might/will I encounter after installing it?

4. Can it be reversed at all?

Thanks in advance.

im not sure where the original update.zip file is floating around right now...as a lot of places that had it up have received take down orders from Motorola...but if you do decide you want to install the rooted version, you can find it at my droid world through the link i posted...

DroidX Gingerbread 2.3.3(4.5.588) Install Patch with Root

2. When the official OTA does roll out, will my phone still accept it?
No it will not, you will have to SBF back to Froyo to receive the OTA

3. What glitches might/will I encounter after installing it?
honestly, your best bet here is to read the 2.3.3 issues thread on these forums...there will be issues and fixes contained there..

that thread can be found here...

4. Can it be reversed at all?
yes it certainly can, but it requires a computer...because you will need to SBF your phone back to stock...

Thanks in advance.
no problem

Hi,

If you're not rooted, and don't want to foil your warranty, it is a baaaaaaad idea to update to GB before the OTA comes out. If you are worried about the warranty, you'd have a difficult time explaining your Gingerbread that's already on your phone, if you have a warranty issue.

I don't know if sbf ruins your warranty, but it is a root user's tool and may cause moto-vzw eyebrows to raise.

My advice? Don't mess with it. OTA should be out next month.

Steven
