1) I have full battery, 3/4 reception, yet I get "no connection" from Market or other apps that require a connection I did a battery pull, but I still get that "no connection" hmmm

2) I downloaded Handcent SMS from online signing in with my Google account and since it said it's been installed, I can't find the app on my phone. where should I look? (this is when I couldn't get into Market from my phone at the time)

suggestions please!

As far as #1 goes try selecting the activation app. It might take a couple of tries.

activation app....? I"m not too familiar with whichever icon it represents activating an app....

when I try to access the Market app, it would say No Connection.... I tried pushing the "Retry" button, sometimes it'd turn blue, sometimes not, but it will not connect.

sorry, I'm totally clueless...but I am learning as much as I can with LG OV....

edit: I'm thinking that Im in the middle of getting my number ported....is this why I can't connect..??

The activation app activates you "VM" service. If there porting your number over this will definitely cause a delay in you data and phone sevice. You can still set up your Google account using the WiFi. If you don't have WiFi were you live go somewhere where it's provided free like McDonald's.
Then you should be able to surf and use the market until your number gets ported over. It just means you have to keep going to the free WiFi spots until they get your number ported over.

I can't remember, but the activate app is a red disk with SSA (SOMETHING? SERVICE ACTIVATION).

Something to keep in mind about using free wifi at places like that. Some, but not all, block downloads of any kind. This is to protect them from idiots parking outside with laptops and downloading illegal material (porn, warez, illegal movies etc.). They'd be held legally responsible by the ISP that they use for what their patrons download... so 9 times out of 10 they block downloading.

I found this out while on my vacation. Hardly anywhere we went would let me download anything from the Market. :(

Like Andy said, if your number isn't ported yet, you're not provisioned for data services on VM's network; heck, even afterward you may not be and may have to do the activation app deal. That's what "no connection" means. No 3G. If you don't have access to WiFi, then you're probably going to have to wait until your number port is done.

Sorry- didn't see this til now.

1) the reason I couldn't connect was because my old number was being ported at the time and I had to call VM to do an edit of the MDN and MSID. Plus, I already paid for the service before I had my number ported, so I had to call them again to let them know that my payment had cleared the bank and asked VM to credit the amount to the ported number. So after that I was able to connect *whew*

2) Got the Handcent SMS going after I had my number ported and my payment credited. Coolest app I've ever use for texting. :)

WIFI....I've no clue what's this all about, but thanks to AndyOpie and NoNameFace for a simple explanation of WIFI. Now I know what to avoid when accessing WIFI.

Even if the free open wifi allows downloads I wouldn't use it, your data can be intercepted and your passwords compromised.
