*If you happened to root the LG Enlighten make sure to change the file otacerts.zip, located in /system/etc/security, to otacerts.zip.bak. This disables OTA updates. Also just as a safety net install Voodoo OTA RootKeeper to back up your su binary.
..........(source link)
I renamed my system/etc/security/otacerts.zip to system/etc/security/otacerts.piz
Don't forget this... I've had to live without root for the past 9 months because I did NOT do this step.

After you get all this done, here is a link for ClockworkMod recovery

-----

Tonight I installed CWM ClockworkMod custom recovery.

1) Copy the following to your SDcard: BobZhome_VM701_recovery and flash_image
2) Then follow the directions, below:

To install the custom recovery:

su
mount -o remount, rw /system
cp /sdcard/flash_image /system/bin
cd /system/bin
chmod 777 flash_image
flash_image recovery /sdcard/BobZhome_VM701_recovery.img
reboot recovery

This should install your new recovery, and reboot you into it.

I sure have missed Swype. Latest version 1.4.5 does not work on Gingerbread.

So today I downgraded to Swype 1.3.6 (1.3.6.10405)
v1.3.6 FC'd often so I also had to download this zip file and unzip contents to /system/lib

This same zip file did not fix the FCs on Swype 1.4.5

OK, so here you have a way to root the Enlighten, awesome! I'm going to give this ago. But I'm a little unclear on how you did the Root... Are not SuperSU and SuperUser two different types of the same thing?
What exactly roots the phone here?
Thanks,
-Gryff

yes, they are so you can pick either.
Step 1 & step 2 roots the phone.
Step 5 & 6 may not be necessary on a defunct phone, but i did it as good practice.. which i failed to do months ago and got burned by a verizon update.

I'll go with Spuper SU as I'm familiar with it and give this a go, I'll let you know how it worked out.
Thanks again.

I signed up just to say thanks for this tutorial. I've been looking for a way to root this thing since I got it. Thanks to you, my search is now over! :)

Today I began to delete audio files I know I'll never use.
I needed the phone storage space, and here is a direct benefit to root. Removing files which I'll never utilize.
I deleted audio files and boot animation found in the following 2 folders:
/system/sounds
/system/media

I only use 1 ringtone and few notification tones. Backup the folders prior to deleting!!

more file deletion information coming soon.

@luvit

You wouldn't happen to have a system dump from this phone, would you? Mine just took a huge crap. :(

A nandroid backup would work too as I am still able to boot into CWM...after you've taken all of your personal data out, of course. ;)

If anyone cares, i was one of the original people involved, we had a working recovery and all that jazz, just never really took off back then. we ran into the problem where the update removed root, but the CWM recovery stuck and i ended up getting a paperweight, the virgin mobile varient is virtutally identical, i was able to flash those roms with almost no problems, for any of you it shouldnt be hard to port, i believe they are optimus q and esteem roms

Can anyone tell me if this will work on a LG LGL-75C Optimus Zip? My computer says the model is a VS700 when I plug it in. Thanks :)

Do you have a stock recovery zip? All I have found are different permutations of the VM701 zips and my VS700 will load them up, but I can't see any Verizon towers. I have downloaded a zip with a dll and tot file, lgnpst, but then fail to ever find a dll that will successfully register on any os. I installed a fresh copy of xp to get any lgnpst iterations and dlls to play together. I have tried loading up all the vs700 dlls that I found in lgdownloader. I have downloaded a cab file with dll, wdb, wdn files in it and did not work with lgdp2. I even tried kp500. I even tried binextractor. I even asked the local verizon store if they would flash it. Sorry if it's already posted.

The cab file for my phone came from LG - I think it was a program named "Original LG Firmware" that fetched the cab based on my imei & serial #. I was able to then flash the phone through USB at the CWM screen using KDZ_FW_UPD_EN (UpTestEX_mod2_marwin) using these instructions: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=36351786

Hi,

I rooted my LG Enlighten using the poot method and accidentally I did factory hard reset, which results in my Enlighten struck on Clockworkmod. I tried, but I can't get it fixed. What you mean here is that I can flash my Enlighten with LG Esteem Rom? Do you know how to fix my LG enlighten? Any help or reference will be very appreciable. Thank you.

Please, DO NOT do a Factory hard reset after you rooted your LG Enlgithen. It will end up your Enlighten stuck on Clockworkdmod, like mine. I'm trying to fix it, but no luck so far. I just want to share my experience.

hello can one of you people please get the IMEI of your phone and type it into this:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2051001 tool and post the link here for me? Also you need to have Python installed on your computer to make this happen I don't own this phone but need a certain file and then I will write a post detailing unbrick method for you guys
TIA

Thanks for trying to help the folks out here, dark_samus!

To our readers, don't post your IMEI here publicly...dark_samus just wants you to run the use the Python program yourself linked in the XDA thread above and have you input your IMEI into the program so that the referenced (kdz?) file can be extracted to be used in helping to develop an unbricking method for your device.

Cheers and best of luck!

Thanks for the clarification scary alien :D and I'm not sure if it will be a cab or kdz but it will be one of the two anyways I simply need the link, also if you have trouble copying and pasting highlight the link and press ctrl+v and then paste it and if you are having trouble finding your IMEI simply go to dialer and type in *#06# then a window will pop up with your IMEI
Best of luck,

EDIT:This is for those of you stuck in the clockwork mod loop after factory resetting from android

So i'm new to rooting and am confused on how to run poot.apk, am i supposed to add it to my phone somehow or run it on my computer and if so how to go about doing it. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I am not familiar with clockworkmod. Do I need it? I haven't installed it yet. I would like to Factory rest my phone. Should I wait till someone out there finds a way to prevent bricking? Am I safe to do it with CWM not installed.
