As far as the poster that said the Epic has Lag, are you kidding me my Epic flies and my GPS works perfect and I am on 2.1. As far as HTC support and updates, I had the HTC hero, loved the phone but it took forever to finally get 2.1 so don't tell me HTC is great with support. I would rather Samsung and Sprint be later and release a stable version that what HTC did for the Hero. Wait forever and when it is released it was buggy as H$ll. I prefer Epic over EVO a million times over. That is my preference, that don't make me right or wrong just right for ME.

My wife Loves her Moment and it is a very good phone and the only one I really care about. The EPIC.

Ehhh...that turbo engine is problematic...no thx...actually the 335I turbo issue is akin to the Evo glass separation issue...ruins the experience for many.

You forgot about the vastly superior GPS on the Evo as well, plus the fact Evo has more ROMs and 2.2 for a long time now.
I laught at people who say one phone is superior in everyway over the other phone. That's just silly. Both phones are superb and there is no way one phone is clearly superior.

Look, I can't tell you how annoyed I am that Samsung is being a pain in the ass when it comes to updating.
That said, right now I'm very glad I got my Epic over the Evo. I've got a number of friends with the Evo and the Epic is right for what I need it to do. I'm currently a graduate film student at USC and for the type of things I need it to do, the Epic works better (for now).
I want to be able to review a lot of media files and the Epic plays far more different kinds of video files and plays them faster than the Evo. It also has a nicer screen for watching the files. There's nothing wrong with the Evo's screen but I did notice that the colors seemed slightly muted when I tried to bring one of my old films on it. Yeah, I am envious of the Evo's kickstand but I'm willing to trade that for the ability to play more files and faster speeds with a better screen.
Next is the camera which I also prefer on the Epic. I know the Evo's is higher MP but I've worked with digital photography and video for years and I know that resolution claims tend to be bogus. Every person who knew about photography said the Epic's camera was better and online comparisons proved the point. I also can't tell you how much I like having a dedicated shooting button instead of having to touch the screen like on the Evo or iPhone.
Finally, there's the keyboard which was probably the biggest factor. I tested both phones and I can't tell you how frustrated i got trying to write e-mails and other text using the Android keyboard. I need a physical keyboard if I'm writing anything longer than a few words. What was even more irking was that one has to add SWYPE to the Evo as a download and it doesn't seem to work nearly as well as on the Epic or other devices that come with it pre-installed. This was really the dealbreaker for me as I realized that I would go absolutely nuts if I was going to be constantly struggling to enter text.
These are the main reasons I went with the Epic over the Evo (and the fact that it came with a bigger SD card so i wouldn't have to spend another $30 upgrading to 16 gig). Yes I really want 2.2 so I can have FLASH but, aside from that, there's not much that makes me regret my choice.
I'm still think the CEO's of Samsung should be taken out and whipped for letting the OS on their flagship device get so out of date. I also may change my tune if apps start requiring 2.2 and we don't have an upgrade soon.

For all the same reasons as you, I chose the EPIC. I LOVE taking pictures and movies on my Epic when I don't bring my Nikon DSLRs. IMO, higher MP count does NOT equal better picture quality. Also, I like the faster fps playback and more codecs to play videos, since I do a lot of video watching as well. Finally the hardware keyboard was very important for me. Coming from a Blackberry with a keyboard, I needed something that gave me the familiarity of a hardware keyboard and then I can transition into a virtual keyboard as I get more used to it. I still find myself using the hardware keyboard for long messages since I can type faster on it even if I use Swype (Swype is not all that perfect as sometimes it has to guess some words and you have to take a little time to pick out the correct word).
Overall I'm happy even on 2.1. Yes I do have some issues (GPS sometimes works great sometimes takes a few minutes to lock), but all in all, I love the phone.

Are you comparing a $43,500 car to a $34,000 car? One is made for going fast in straight line, and one is made for cruising the autobahn.... Apples and oranges. Give me that extra $9,500 and I will put a suspension on that Camero that will eat the BWM. I don't even like Chevy.

That deal breaker is no longer true of the EVO as of the last big update that was pushed about two weeks ago which essentially bundled Swype along with Blockbuster and a game demo and some other modifications and fixes etc... which kind of goes back to your initial annoyance at Samsung's slow updates...
I see that it has a belt clip, but no kickstand?

First off, I completely 100% concur that the slow updates are incredible BS and I am furious about them. There is really no excuse on Samsung's part and, while I'm still very happy with my Epic, I'm most likely going to avoid all Samsung products in the future because this is ludicrous. In the ever growing technology world, product support is more important than ever. I don't care about blockbuster but I might actually swap phones if Netflix releases a 2.2 only app or something else HTC exclusive.
THAT SAID, even with working SWYPE, I wouldn't be able to survive. I was actually showing my Mom SWYPE today and she asked why I don't just use it instead of the keyboard. I explained that just like when one types on a computer keyboard, typing on a physical one uses muscle memory so you're not thinking about the words you are typing but rather the sentences you are forming. Even though SWYPE is great, I have to think to myself what work I want to say next and then think about where the keys are. Drawing your hand across the screen just doesn't seem to lend it'self to the same kind of muscle memory that a real keyboard does. I kept finding that I was using simpler sentences in my e-mails and had trouble organizing my thoughts. I also find I make a lot more mistakes on SWYPE. I try to use it for short messages or to type e-mail addresses but I find that I screw up with symbols or numbers. Since a big part of the reason i got this phone was to be able to send e-mails whenever I needed and to be able to work with documents, the inability to type properly just doesn't cut it.
Why the hell would they make a kick stand that makes the phone stand up vertically? The whole point of the kickstand is for watching movies which fills up the screen in portrait mode. I'd much rather hold the damn phone myself than lose 60% of screen resolution. I'm not trying to be rude to whoever posted this but I don't get why the company would make a kickstand that doesn't work for the one thing the kickstand was designed to do.

I absolutely love my Epic. I would not trade it with the EVO. Mind you, I am running the DK28 Froyo leak and have amazingly accurate. GPS (1M accuracy), flash support, and fantastic battery life. I have frozen all bloatware and DRM via Titanium. I don't have any scratches on my screen and have not used a screen protector since launch day. I use the free wifi tether app for root users and never pay for a hot spot or have any cap. I love the hardware keyboard. I have seen comparisons of photos taken with both Epic and EVO. The Epic camera wins in every category, especially for video. It is hands down the best phone on the US market in my opinion. If you plan to root your phone (simple task), you can have all the use of it's hardware capabilities. The only people who complain about the phone are they who have not taken the initiative to root and upgrade to the leak.

Hey buggerritt, would you mind sharing which DRM ones you froze in titanium? I have just been shutting it off in the running processes cause I haven't had the time to test which ones I can freeze etc. I agree with your post, I am running a DK28 froyo and everything is great cept the DRM.
Terminal case of the DA eh? The belt clip swivels 360 degrees so you can put the phone in just about any position you desire. You can even take it off so you can hold it in your hand. ROFLMAO

I froze both instances of DRM: DRM Content and DRM Content Launcher. I also froze Media hub, Amazon MP3, Email (I am using K-9 so, there is no need for it), GMail, Google Search, NASCAR, QIK Video, Sprint Football, Sprint TV, SprintZone, SprintTV Widget, and Y! Finance Clock. The phone works flawlessly, without all that crap. I get all my email, SMS/MMS, GPS is lovely, never drop calls, internet is wicked fast, wifi tethering rocks it, music plays great, bluetooth is top notch (waiting for next build for voice dialing via BT, though). I have no real gripes with this phone. Gsyncit syncs all my outlook contacts, mail, and calendar. Life is good...really good.

I looked at the case that is mentioned above. I love the look and believe it would be comfortable. The only problem I have with getting one, is that I had body glove cases on my TP2 and the little plastic tabs, that hold it onto the phone, are not very durable. Since you have to remove the back of the case, to remove the battery, it gets a lot of wear in a short time. I change my battery at least once/day and that is enough to wreck those little tabs in a week. If you could keep it on, all the time and just charge your phone while you sleep, it would be perfect. I don't imagine many light users would purchase a phone like this, though. It would be like my father buying a six core gaming system with crossfire cards and liquid cooling, so he can check his email once/week.
Well, I've had mine installed for about a week now and absolutely love it. I was somewhat concerned about removing the back part of the case for putting it in my car adapter, but just now found an easy (almost effortless way of doing it without fearing breaking off those tabs you speak about. Just pull the top of the back away from the unit first (above the volume buttons) then the other side. Then slide the whole thing down to release from the bottom tabs (the bottom isn't quite as flexible as the top is).
