Help 3...2....1....self destruct?

Wwellllllllllllllllll I am due for an upgrade soon and my phone (Samsung Galaxy Nexus) has been fabulous with absolutely no issues. I love this phone. I love it SO much that I do NOT want to upgrade. I don't really see anything out there that I want or MUST have. I've messed around with the ones out there and none really impress me.

Anyway, I think they put a self destruct chip in these phones or something because since I am due for an upgrade, my phone is acting up. I would appreciate some insight on this issue.

This is kind of hard to describe...I'll do my best:

My phone won't text. Sometimes I only receive them and I can see them. Sometimes I will not be able to see them but I can hear them coming in. Sometimes I won't be able to see them after I respond to the person - the texts completely disappear off the messaging menu. I can send them...I think...as I will reply...and people reply back. I guess?

I will shut down the phone and restart it - the texts I sent do not show up but texts I received do show up. The phone will also think it is Friday December 31st 7pm. This happens even when I remove the battery.

If it charges all the way up - it does fine. I thought at first that it was when the battery got at a certain point...but it did it when it was almost full recently.

Today the screen also wouldn't "sleep" without me putting it to sleep even though I had it set to sleep at 30seconds.

Sooo anyone have any ideas? Could it be the battery maybe or the phone? I have another battery to try.

Give it a factory reset. Great phone!
Wait for the nexus5 for your upgrade

What will I lose when I do a factory reset? Google more or less backs up everything right?

I am pretty convinced it's the best phone ever. I've had quite a few but this one has been indestructible and never given me any issues until now. I LOVE it! I am waiting to see the S5 - but if it's not as good as this one, I can wait longer. Know a few folks with the S4 - not impressed to go out and get one.

Once youve tasted nexus, i think youd hate the s4 tbh lol.
Youll lose everything on the "user" part of the storage so apps, pics, music, everything you put on it. Apps will download automaticly if you choose after resetting but theyl be as new, their settings, game progress etc will be lost. Unless you use a backup system like the Helium app. Im guessing you havent rooted the phone?
What android version is it on now btw?

I use Verizon. So I don't think Verizon phones can be rooted or else it messes with the warranty. I don't have any games or anything really that I have to be concerned with progress. I just think I have to back up my photos....and I should be okay.

I definitely don't like the s4. It's okay, but it just doesn't do anything for me. Right now there's nothing at Verizon that excites me. I just want my Nexus! And I want it to be around for a long time.

Oh and it's running 4.2.2

Welllllllll I did a factory reset - still have the same issues. I went to VZW and they're going to send me a replacement phone.
