3dEvo: Pre-release miscellany

Sprint and Motorola having a Big Meeting on 6/9 - New phones are coming....
Yeah but unfortunately Motorola is known for the same locked bootloaders that the Evo 3D has, and I don't think it will have 3D anyway.

You can bet your bottom dollar though, if this phone they announce turns out to be an Atrix with a bigger screen, 3D, and an unlocked bootloader, I will absolutely be getting 4 of them and forget about the Evo 3D.

I actually plan on using the 3D cameras, so it will be hard for me to get another phone that doesn't have 3D. But I do love those docks of the Atrix. If it had 3D and an unlocked bootloader, I would probably choose it over the Evo 3D even if the Evo 3D had an unlocked bootloader.

That argument has about the same weight as saying I own a home and if i want to make it into a brothel or meth house, i should be able to.

It's not even close to the same thing.

Let me just say, I honestly think if you want to run a brothel or meth house, you should be able to.

Having said that, brothels and meth houses are illegal. Flashing ROMs is totally legal. It's not even close to the same thing.

If you buy a phone, you should absolutely be able to use the phone in any legal way you choose to use it.

Good Post ^

My main Aggravation with it.....Its My Phone. I Paid for it.
I should be able to do whatever I want with it.
If I can't do what I want....I won't buy it.

Its a HUGE bummer ....cause I REALLY wanted this one.

I feel the same way, MahaloCat. If I paid good money for something, I should be able to use it to its full potential and not how HTC thinks I should use it.

Hopefully this all gets worked out, and we can be laughing about this after its release. We shall see.

Agreed. The analogy was a bit off, but I saw where he was trying to go with it.

You put it into perspective correctly. Well said.

Probably stirring up the puddin' pretty good here,:o but I think the "powers that be" want control over the badwidth and the content through same (copyrighted materials like movies, and songs), not neccessarily the device itself. True, you pay for the device and should be able to do whatever with it as long as it doesn't viloate anyone else's rights to their property or ability to do the same. "The right to swing your fist stops at my nose." But aboslutely, if the thing doesn't suit your needs and/or tastes, don't buy it. Agree 100% Being totally new to the android scene (don't have THE phone yet), I only have the outsiders view in, but its my view, FWIW.

I just need a new phone quick. The Curve I was gonna use as backup acts like it was a hanger and got smacked out of the park and now it wont' power and/or charge. So I'm stuck with the only thing that seems to have went along with Camping's end of the world prediction, my Pre. So please, let's bring the bad boy on, soon. Pretty please?

I would also point out that while a Moto phone or two are probably going to be announced at the June 9th event I would also bet some money that they will show the WiMax Xoom and beat Verizon to the punch (the are still not rolling out the LTE upgrade they promised). I seriously doubt this affects the 3d in anyway.

I agree in part. In reference to my previous post, I meant that HTC THINKS I should only be using Sense UI as it was available out of the box.

What I agree with is that I am sure that carriers pressure the manufacturers to lock these things down due to Wi-Fi tethering as just one example, although you can technically tether without even being rooted, which kind of invalidates their purpose. There is also the whole thing where people who screw up their handsets because they do not fully understand what they are getting into with flashing custom ROMs, and then they try to get a new one under warranty, which of course costs money for someone other than the consumer, whether it be HTC or Sprint or both.

Now I'm about 90% certain we WON'T see the Evo3D in June, and it likely won't be until later in the summer based on this. It wouldn't surprise me in the least. I had the original Evo, returned it within the 30 days as soon as the Evo 3D was announced, I figured why pay $200 for the old version of a phone when the replacement is coming in a couple months? I'm stuck using my POS TP2 and can't stand it. I was set on getting the Evo3D, but if it isn't announced in the next month and won't be available until the end of summer, then I may say screw it and get another device.

Since the Evo is still selling well, it wouldn't surprise me at all if Sprint/HTC hold off on the Evo3D for a few months to try and sell more of their existing stock of Evo's.

90% certain based on what?

I swear Sprint better start thinking straight if they're not. The Atrix is already out for 2 different carriers, if they think that a phone with a few upgrades that has already been released twice would sell more than the first 3D phone released in the country, then they must be crazy! If any new announced phone comes out before the Evo 3D, I swear I'll be angry!

Based on nothing other then gut feeling. If it were really coming in June, then I'd think we'd have heard something by now. While we still might see it near the end of June, I highly doubt we'll see it release in early or even mid June (that's barely 2 weeks away). I would think they'd tell people about the release date a minimum of 2 weeks before they actually release it, even that seems rather tight.

So that in conjunction with the fact Sprint / Moto were making a big announcement on June 9, that just made me pessimistic that we'd see it in June since we haven't heard anything yet.

It looks like the June 9th event will be to announce the Photon 4g. If the reported specs are true it has the same specs as the evo 3d except with a tegra 2 and a kickstand (no 3d of course.)

But I didn't see any mention of the ROM, which is 4GB on the EVO3D. So that will be one to watch.

I saw 8mp rear camera, which is just fine with me. I just hope Motorola uses better lenses on their cameras than HTC.

3D is cool, but I'm not in total need of that. In fact, if they left 3D off the EVO 3D, it wouldn't have made a difference to me.

Why would they want to release the atrix; it was one of hte most problematic phones ever when at&t released it. Even moto came out and admitted it was a flawed dog. I mean crise; if they are going to release another phone can't they pick something that is actually popular ?

The atrix I believe had 16gb. However, my girlfriend has it and I hate the screen and I was pretty unimpressed with the camera quality.

Pretty sure it came with a 16gb microSD, but not 16gb ROM.

It's going to have the same screen as the Droid X2 (4.3), according to the reports, and that would also mean QHD LCD, right? So, by that theory it'd have the same quality screen as the EVO 3D.

Camera quality on the Atrix with 5mp camera vs. 8mp camera will have to be a "wait and see." If the camera lens being used on Motorola phones is the same, then I can't see the mp making much difference.

I've never compared pictures with the Droid X vs. the EVO 4G, so I couldn't say which took better pics.

The att website lists the internal memory as 16gb and the expandable memory as up to 32gb, which is what I remembered reading about it before it was released. The qhd screen uses a pentile matrix, and that is something that has been unconfirmed to this point on the evo 3d, but I think the general consensus is that it won't use this screen tech. Of course, the specs of the photon could very well be different than the atrix. We'll just have to wait and see.

Wow. Saw that. If the Sprint version holds up to be the same, I really can't see any reason I'd get the 3D over that.

Would sprint release 2 phones with pretty much the same specs so close to each other?

The moto migt take waway from the e3d. And maybe the moto will be sprint flagship phone. We really don't know if the e3d will be flagship. That is not set in stone anywhere.

And may be a World Phone.

I doubt it. If the Photon is based off of the DX2, it's CDMA. But Moto sweetened the deal by adding WiMax. It's probably all that they did differently, besides add the kickstand and change the back cover to not say Droid X2 / Verizon Wireless.
