Help 3G/4G not working since moving country

Hello,

I bought a Samsung Galaxy S6 whilst living in Singapore. This was an unlocked device available on all networks. I used to receive 4G data no problem. Upon moving to the UK I bought a new SIM with 4G access, however, I only ever get E, G, H, or H+. I never can connect to 3G or 4G. I tried the same SIM in a different phone and in the same location and the other phone received 4G data. I have also tried other SIMs in my device and it does not receive 4G.

I have tried the following fixes:
Changed my Network mode to all possible options and rebooted each time
Changed the Access Point Name to the one recommended by the provider
Put the phone in flight mode for 30 seconds then switch flight mode off
Reboot the phone
Reboot the phone in safe mode
Wipe the system cache
Install all software updates

Any help would be appreciated. My settings are:
Model: SM-G920I Android Version: 5.1.1 Baseband Version: G920IDVU3DOJ6

Do I need to change my firmware for my baseband to a UK update?

Thanks,

Tom

Are you sure the device has the supported bands in the other country?

Use this site and punch in your info and see what it says about compatibility.

If your device doesn't have the proper hardware to be compatible with their networks, there really isn't anything you can do. There's no software update that will add that functionality if it isn't present in the hardware.

H and H+ are 3G, so you are getting 3G coverage (in fact they are the faster versions of 3G).

You've not said which UK network you are trying to use it on, which might be relevant. From my research the G920I does not support the 800MHz LTE band, which is the only one used for 4G by O2. It does have 1800 MHz (EE, Three) and 2600 MHz (EE, Vodafone), so if you are using one of those networks I don't know why it isn't working. But that handset isn't compatible with O2's 4G network, and hence also not with any virtual operator who use that network such as GiffGaff or Tesco.

I'm not an expert on this handset, but generally you can't add frequency bands by changing the baseband.

Thanks for your speedy responses guys. Apologies for not providing my provider - it is giffgaff.

I checked on the website you recommended and it shows that it is not supported. I will have to change provider. Thanks so much for your responses I was pulling my hair out as I had already tried a different provider (Virgin - also incompatible).

Okay so I punched in as much information as you provided. It looks like the only 4g compatible networks in the UK are:
  • 3 UK
  • BT Mobile
  • EE
  • Go Mobile
  • ID
So if you're looking for 4G and you aren't on one of those carriers, you'll need to consider switching carriers or getting a device that's compatible with your current carrier.

Edit:
You beat me to my reply. :)
Mystery solved!

In fact there are 4 network providers in the UK: EE, O2, Three and Vodafone.

All others are virtual operators piggy-backing off one of those 4, so for compatibility you need to know which network they are using.

(You will still find some people still with Orange or T-Mobile, the 2 networks who merged to form EE, but only on legacy tariffs that don't include 4G)

Hi ,I think your phone is " carrier locked " by its manufacturer.ie it is compatible for using where it is sold. Some mobiles are different from machine to machine and country to country. You can send an email to the service center of your phone company in this country .

Phones from Singapore, and SE Asia in general aren't usually carrier locked. Because they're nearly always SIM free and unsubsidized, paying full retail for them. It's what bands and modes it's actually got, in the OP's case 4G.

I am experiencing same problem .I brought my lenovo tab a3500 hv from Dubai using in India .if I select " 2g" only in mobile data settings I can use Google map or net browsing ,if I select "2g/3gauto" or 3g only I am not able use any of them, when open seeing this " no net connection ".I change sim card and place, all the same. I contact lenovo company India ,they said this and they also said if the product has no international warranty they can do nothing.
