Root 3g, camps in 1x mode

hi, well i have 2 evo's and both or stuck in 1x mode in a 3g area. we are in the mountains and about 10 miles from the cell site on the other side of the valley, line of site. is there a patch or way to make the phone stay in evdo and not camp in 1x?? one phone is rooted. also have a swift. same 1x. also have a wilson 60 db and excellent cell voice but no data but 1x. sucks when the cell is the only data connect in the area. thanks :confused:

moved you to the rooting section since you have one that is rooted.

most roms now days show a true signal meaning that what you see is the actual signal strength. before sense would only show that you have a signal and it will not show you what type of signal you are getting whether it was 3g or 1x.
 
Its rooted but doesent show but 3g. Might need to update it with a new rom. I know which i have due to the speeds and my swift. It shows 1x. Im just in the outer range bouncing in and out of true 3g. I just need to get the phone to focus on 3g and not traine doqn to one x. Turn 1x off would be nice forcing 3g to work or not. I get a -55db off the wilson for voice. Just kicking data up. On the border line of good speed. Thanks for the welcome and any help is welcome

if i am in the valley and have it turned on with the wilson it keeps the 3g working good but take it out of the cradle and into the home. 1x and cant get it back to 3g. so drive to the valley about a mile its back to 3g again so im almost there. thanks again i will try that.
 
I tried the setting but it has a password. so i just check it in view. it shows to already have the setting in there as seen. next on the list to try lol. any patches out there to over ride the 3g kickdown to 1x?

you can't just make your evo go from 1x to 3g. it is all about the signal and its strength. if there is no 3g but there is 1x then that is what you are getting. it really depends on coverage. you can call sprint and complain. they might give you an airave for free.

since you are rooted you can check and see if verizon has better coverage where you are at. you can always hack onto their towers by using their prl. but warning though, you can and most likely will get booted from sprint if you do that.
 
using version prl, how would i go about doing that. would love to see if it pickups the speed. but only for a test.
 
thanks again, i do have a family plan and unlimited data. i live in the sprint 3g area. but im just a little out of the 3g area about a mile so i get 1x. but trying to get sprint to pay attention to this is a major problem. so next i will try to get them to connect me to the work shop or what was stated a few days ago. maybe that will work. and thank you much for all your help. if they wont i would love to know and will figure it out how to get the phone to work. I know the signal is here i have had it work a few times in my home here...

Hey ocnbrze!! ;) Have a little info to pass along! I was getting 3G but thought it was slow. Went to that post did the "HTTP" thing. Definately changed me to Port and Proxy to 0 and 0,0,0,0 because I verified by ##3282#. Only problem is the 1X only started coming up for me after that. I'm have 60681 prl. Trying to figure out a better port and proxy, any suggestions?

no suggestions i have not really messed with those. for me the 3g fix did nothing for me. if you want you can just update your prl and it should revert back to what you had before. sorry can't help you on that issue.
