Help 3G Data Connectivity Issues

I am in Minneapolis and honestly on average I get more than 1 mbps. I have used hotspot also and always get more than 1 mbps and can easily watch netflix on my laptop. I also get the same speed when I drive in the suburbs of Minneapolis. I think Minneapolis has more Sprint/VM towers, I guess. I am very happy with Virgin Mobile service, I wish I had that service right from the get-go. I have used ATT, Verizon and Sprint in the past and have always paid hefty monthly charges to them. But now I am quite contended with VM service, it is prepaid and amount does not vary every month as it used to be with ATT, Verizon and Sprint. I love love love VM, awesome service, I never called their customer service as I never had problems, I hardly use 300 minutes as I am using Groove IP app to make Google Voice calls, love the data plan as it is always on with better speeds and I have used this phone in Atlanta, Dallas, Chicago and other cities without any problems.

mine is all over the place. I have had several time with no data at all....sometimes for hours. Then sometimes a reboot will clear it up.

I have a buddy that has the droid X with verizon. He was laughing at me at how slow my speeds were. Comparibly, mine is like 56k and his is like a T1
ditto 56k dialup rate the VAST majority of the time for me as well when on 3G, and IIRC my max that I ever hit was around 400k...

As to the OP's other questions, well go to their website and look at their coverage map, then IIRC either VM or Sprint have one where you can enter the zip code to get a better idea of coverage.

As to the rest a simple Google would've turned up gsmarena or phonearena(IIRC) with a complete spec breakdown for the optimus.

when 3g drops do you still get 1x data or is it 3g or nothing? it would suck if you had no data when 3g stops, even if it is for only a little while.

Yes your data will change to 1x if 3g is not available but I have had 3g almost everywhere I've gone except for about 5 minutes when I was going through the desert with no towns for about 50 miles. I have very good coverage where I live and my speeds are about 1.2 mbps download

I also called VM again this morning and ask to have a ticket assigned to this problem and the person on the phone had no idea what I was talking about. They told me to just turn the phone off and back on again and that should fix my problem. This time the person sounded spainish, maybe in the Philippines?

Turning my phone off then on again seemed to do the trick when I momentarily lost connectivity. (Although I almost always have a good, solid connection...)

Just bought my Optimus V about 24 hours ago. Extremely frustrated with it. While I LOVE the phone itself, and all its features, I have absolutely no 3G at all. Texting works (both incoming and outgoing, including pictures), calling works (incoming and outgoing), GPS works, wifi works, but 3G doesn't. It hasn't worked once yet. I have 4 bars, and the 3G icon on the phone is present, and shows arrows moving sometimes, but no amount of activating, airplane mode, or taking out the battery helps. I called VM to have them reset the network settings, as well as my plan, and am still without 3G. My friend is using the same exact phone in an area nearby and says his internet is working perfectly. Any ideas?

Also, I too suffer from the "time without signal 50%"

It's so distressing to see so many people go through this same issue over and over again with Virgin Mobile.... and it's not just with the OpV. :(

You have to keep calling them. Be relentless and don't leave them alone until they fix the issue. Bug the snot out of them twice a day if you have to.

I feel your pain!

I suffered with this exact same thing, after a couple weeks I finally started calling Virgin cust. service after trying several of the tricks here (fortunately I had wifi almost everywhere I go or I'd have been really mad).

They reset my account 2x and said to keep the phone off for four hours each time. On the third phone call with no results they finally said they were issuing a "service ticket" and taking my problem "very seriously". They said to keep the phone off for four hours again but I could continue making phone calls and texting (whatever????) and they would get someone right on it within 24-72 hours?.

About an hour later the 3g went on and has been working great ever since and the battery life is at least double! Knocking on wood right now but very, very happy.

Yes it's kind of a pain but has been very worth it in the long run. I think it has something to do with them really setting up your account properly and it seems to have been in a rash of phones starting around late May through June, it seems to have tapered off lately, hopefully they have solved it.

I don't think it will fix iteself, I'd make the calls and be patient for a couple days, they will have you reboot your phone and pull the battery a few times but again, it's worth it!

I still have the 50% drain after each power up but a quick flick on and then off of the airplane mode after reboot is pretty easy to live with. Everything else seems to be working as it should (again, knocking wood).

I now get at least 12 hours out of a charge and I use the phone a lot (particularly for business e-mails which I get throughout the day).

GOOD LUCK!

I am so happy to have found this forum. My daughter and I both purchased LG Optimus (Virgin Mobile) a week ago. Her 3G worked, mine did not. I've been on the phone three times over this past week. They gave me a ticket number and told me it would take up to five days for the 3G to "kick in." Today is day six and instead of calling them again, I decided to look the issue up on the internet.

I tried the "activate" procedure and could not connect. I got a screen saying "Service is not available. Error: 06-07-5910 Contact Virgin Mobile at Your Service 1-888-322-1122" The phone was locked up and I couldn't back out of the screen. I turned off the phone and turned it back on. A nice little surprise... all of a sudden the 3G is working.

My daughters phone worked fine up until two days ago. I am going to have her go through the same procedure and hopefully it will work for her.

Thank you for the help. I'm sure this thread is helping many! I don't know why Virgin Mobile doesn't set up a trouble shooting page with these tricks on it!

I had 3g issues on and off for 2 months or so after getting the phone. One of the first things I did after getting it was turn off GPS location to conserve battery. Eventually I turned it back on to use navigation and forgot to turn it back off. I haven't had a single problem since and my battery actually seems to last longer with GPS turned on. Maybe since it was turned off the phone was still trying to get location data through wifi/cell radio and when I was in a low/no signal area it switched network types??? I dunno. Probly just a coincedence but I'm thrilled either way :)

I have been on the phone (my other phone) 3 times today arguing w/ Virgin Mobile about the sudden disappearance of 3G. After being told to remove my battery for the 3rd time, and being assured that they were taking my problem very seriously, so seriously in fact that a technician would call me back within a few days, I decided to turn to the forums. I tried everything, finally did the Activate. I got the same error message and decided to call VM to find out what the heck 06-07-5910 means. Apparently they're not allowed to tell me, but they'll let the technicians know I asked. LOL. Anyone know what it means? Oh, and 3G is back.

-Maybe its the date for the end of the world?

-Maybe the date for when they expect to have the 3G issue solved?

-the date the Optimus V will get Gingerbread):(

VM is so full of $%*#. My daughter was getting harassing phone calls, so she called VM customer service to get the number blocked (they've blocked numbers for her before) and the lady told her "The FCC forbids us to block numbers. It's against the law".

VM is about on my last nerve lately.

Actually had my first issues with service today. Lost cell and 3g signals for more than an hour - completely, in an area where I normally have great service. Got cell service back after an hour - full strength. Another thirty minutes before 3G. I'm in South Georgia - anyone else have the same thing happen to them?

@melissapugs: I'm in western NY and i had the same thing happen. My 3g went out but I still had signal, both hard and soft reset didn't work and the 3g just randomly came back. I've never had a problem before (knock on wood) and my service is great.

St. Paul, Minnesota. Lost data connection about 2 hours ago, still not back. I'm experiencing one of those outages where the 3G icon in the status bar completely disappears. That seems to indicate that there's an entire network problem, and I've learned to just be patient because there's nothing wrong on my end.

Same here. My Optimus V has been out of 3g signal for over 5 hours. I am in Houston,TX area.
3g icon gone too. Tried toggle airplane mode on/off, same issue.

Yeah, seems like I wasn't the only one after all - I became convinced that tasker experimentation had flatlined my baby  all's good now, and yes, I'm knocking on wood, too
So weird - kept telling me data wasn't enabled - and not showing 3g icon or any of its replacements.
Strangeness. Glad it seemed temporary for most of us - I wish you speedy data recovery if you're still out.

Now here's a new one. A couple times over the last few days I have lost the cell radio (can't call/text) but *not* the 3G. WTH?
