Root 3g data speed in CM7

I was just experimenting with various .prls, so I was using the stock rom. I performed a speed test in stock, then went back to my CM7 install and tested again only to find that I'm getting half the bandwidth. I guess there is something going on with my CM7 settings/install but I'm not sure what I should check. Not having any luck with searches. Any ideas?

Issac, if you see this, what has been the best .prl for you in Dallas?

I don't think the ROM changes anything with your 3G data speeds.

It shouldn't happen that way In his lataest release TG uses the prl from the radio so what ever you flashed is what it uses. That said I'm sure there could be more going on here. I get large variations from test to test
I'm using the latest Sprint PRL 80863 The only difference I have noticed is during peak hours. I don,t get the REAL low speeds like I did when I had VM PRL. I am pleased with it

CM7 doesn't make any changes to the radio code. So it would not be what is causing your issue.

You can change the PRL using a stock based ROM. (You can't do it on the 2.3 ROMs). There is a link in the Root Guide with all the info you need to do that. It is the one entitled Changing your PRL.

On the OV, one can change PRL on a 2.3 ROM if booted into recovery mode, I assume this method has been tried on the MT and doesn't work?

Yeah, it isn't possible.

If you like to play around with different PRLs be aware that while CM7 claims to support diag mode on the USB port by default (to the point that it will happily claim it accepted a PRL update) it in fact does not write it to the radio. I have no idea why. As such if you want to update the PRL you need to flash back to stock to do so. For the most part on Virgin this is probably a waste of time as the PRL mostly controls roaming access, and you can't roam on Virgin service. Nonetheless, some people like to play, so the caution and note deserves mention.

I said I suspect it's something to do with "my CM7 settings/install".

I do not think it is CM7. I do not believe CM7 alters the radio. It has nothing to do with the .prl either.

I started using MIUI again anyway (and the problem is gone).

I just researched this, and no, not that I've found. You actually have to go back to stock and use QPST as the phone boots as far as I know.

You don't have to do as the phone boots but you do have to go back to stock... You then download anycut free on the android market. Open select activity and go down to select COM port then make a shortcut on your homescreen. Click the home screen shortcut you just created and change to diag. And now qpst should recognize your phone!
