Root 3G Help Needed

jlhog

Newbie
My phone shows 3G connected with good signal strength but will not connect to anything. I get a message Network Error. Please check your signal and press retry. Nothing new added and everything worked a week ago. I have tried pulling the battery overnight and reactivating the phone. Can anyone tell me what may be causing this?

Are you stock, rooted or running a custom rom?

Where any changes made to the phone or any new apps installed at the time your issue started?

You can try tech support and see if having them reset your 3g on their end will help.

If you have already used the SSA (activate) app, then sometimes you must run the app 2-3 times in a row before your data connection is restored. I've seen this work before to fix 3G on the V.

Being as you are rooted, you might try installing the Harmonia ROM. It will allow you more space for apps, allow more movement of apps, can be overclocked to 480MHz min-725MHz max with no problem after installing an overclocking app (Angry Birds is a lot smoother).

Then there is the Bumblebee Resurrected. Not Quite as much space, but it is already set to 480MHz min-768MHZ max and is one of the Fastest Froyo Rom's out there.

The Harmonious Bumblebee is a cross of both.

They all have the TWS bug fixed and they have the activate app.

Even if you decide to move up to a Gingerbread or ICS ROM It would be a very good Idea to keep a backup of either of these three, because of the activate app, which the Gingerbread and ICS ROM's don't have.

If this is something your interested in doing (might help your current 3G problem), go to the All Things Root sub-forum and look in the sticky's.

U have no idea how long it took me to get enough balls just to root the phone... I may try a rom if all else fails. The funny part is one of my apps actually connects like it should. Nothing else including Opera will connect.

I tried to reactivate 5 times in a row last night. No luck. I still cannot connect. The new Elite is getting closer by the day :-)

No, I did not contact VM about the issue. I paid $59 for the phone almost two years ago and that just gave me a reason to upgrade. So far I am very pleased with the performance of the Elite. I did kind of figure out the 3G problem when activating the Elite. My account was past due. My auto payment from Pay Pal never made it because a week earlier I tried to make a payment with my phone thru Pay Pal and they locked my account until I verified it was me. During that time they should have sent the payment to VM. Anyway all is good. I have a new better phone and my son will get the V when he finishes USMC basic training in Sept. He leaves this coming Sunday and I already miss him!!:(

Okie Dokie.
Did you ever try calling VM about your activation problem?

I think you just explained your activation problem.
VM is getting tougher and cracking down on a lot of stuff. The had to look the other way, and give huge grace periods while they where trying to establish themselves in the smart phone arena.
I am now seeing actions from them that would indicate that they are very comfortable where they are at and are starting to tighten the belt so they can start seeing a higher return on there lengthy investment into the smart phone arena.

Nothing but standard business practice's

If you think about it, they have been overly considerate of the customer. I still only have to pay $25.00 for my plan, when those who purchased a phone after ? (brain stuck) have to pay $35.00.
They could have made everybody pay up, but they didn't.
