Help 3G icon colors

What is the difference between the white and the blue 3G icons? I'm sure it means some difference but not sure what...

From what I've noticed..

White = not connected

Blue = connected

seems to be more like active/ inactive to me. its connected if its showing, otherwise there is no icon at all there.

yeah...i too originally thought it was a connected/disconnected thing...

but ive had times where wifi or 3g icons stayed white and i had a perfectly working data connection...so im not really sure lol

Blue means it's connected to Google's servers. Several articles mentioned that back when the Nexus got Gingerbread.
