Which do you use the majority of the time?

Why would you use WiFi when we have to pay for unlimited 3G anyhow?

Wifi is faster and more consistent bro. That's why you would use it. I get full wifi signal in my basement but the mobile network signal is pathetic there and can only really do voice well.

My WiFi router at home has some latency issues, so I only use it if I want to:

1. download a file more quickly (PB00IMG.ZIP, for instance),
2. browse the web while I'm talking on the phone, or
3. download files from another computer on my Windows network (using EStrongs File Explorer).

I don't even have my router's passkey in my phone after doing the reset. And I'm not missing it. I don't think I've used WiFi on my phone in a month. Before that, I was just conditioning myself to live with the battery life of having 3G on all the time. It lasts me a day, no problem.

I have shaky 3G at home, so I use WiFi here. I don't use it anywhere else. Well, I might if I was in a place with a crappy signal, too.

I think there's something wrong with my wifi antenna because whenever I connect to a router, either mine or my school's, I can only go to the first page of a bookmark. If I click on any link, I get taken to an error page saying there's no connection.

This has been going on since 1.5, so I'm pretty sure it's a hardware issue. So I just use 3G.

I use wifi at school and home, when im working 3g.

I use wifi whenever I can, because its faster.

Take it in to the store. You're covered under a one year warranty. Best scenario is you have 1.5 and not 2.1. Even if you have 2.1, give it a shot and see if they can fix it. 2.1 isn't an unofficial upgrade, so try and make your case.

I just checked my usage from the bill for last month, it was 669MB for march. I use wifi when I am at home or at work. So I would hate to see the real total traffic for a month.

Wow, Verizon has made some changes to their website. This is the first time I have logged in for a month or so.

I used just under 1 gig last month. The month before I used just under 3 gigs (I think I downloaded a lot of music).

Its not as simple as the poll. When at all possible I use my own WiFi network because its secure, I have access to the files I may need on my PC's, I also have access to my media server, But most of all because its FAST! Otherwise I use the 3G network and very rarely use any non familiar WiFi Hotspots.

Wi-Fi at work. Have to toggle the Use static IP setting to ON every time I arrive there.

3G between work and home.

Have to toggle off the Use static IP at home.

Would be neat if the two Wi-Fi sites could have their own settings.

It seems like my wifi is working more reliably now. Maybe the v3 helped the antenna...

For those of you that use wifi a lot, do you have your settings set to "never sleep"? Does wifi really make that much of a difference in battery life? Thanks.

3G when I'm out and about, but wifi at the house when I don't feel like pulling out my laptop. 3g is week at my house.

+1 I have weak signal at my house as well so I turn on wifi to prevent battery drain. I use 3g when I'm out and there is no wifi to connect to. Wifi is just faster, which is whats important right?

I have a Droid. I have a prog that sets my WiFi on at home and at work and I use 3G elsewhere. I did a very non-scientific test about battery life and this is what I have found.

I take the phone off the charger at the house at 6:00 am and put it back on the charger at 10-11:00 pm. With WiFi never on I would get home with between 20 and 40% battery depending on usage. I did this for a week. Then I did the WiFi at work and at home. Typically, using WiFi, I plug the phone in at night with between 60 and 70% remaining battery. I am running stock OS. During that two week period, I did not connect my phone to any charging devices or computers so I could see the real difference. IMHO, WiFi is definitely a battery saver and it is much faster than 3G (even with good signal.)

My wife has an Eris and I'm trying to get her to do the same, but being allergic to technology; she never does.

Anyway, Happy WiFi-ing,

What's the name of it?

Sorry, I didn't see this earlier. The program's name is Setting Profiles by Probeez. The dev keeps it up to date and responds to questions on the Google group set up for that. There is a trial version that allows one profile and then the paid version is just a couple of bucks. Well worth the money.
