Root 3GB of extra dropbox space for using a Sense 3.5 ROM

I'm currently trying a Sense 3.5 ROM and was pleasantly surprised to find I'd got 3GB extra space on dropbox for doing so. At the time when HTC and Dropbox made the announcement about this promotion, I don't believe there were any 3.5 ROMs available and I'd forgotten about it.

Even if you don't want to make regular use of a sense ROM, you might want to backup your ROM and switch temporarily. It only lasts for 12 months, unfortunately, but it's useful nonetheless.

I thought you only got a 2gb account for free when you signed up, but that you could get up to 8gb by inviting people (and them accepting the invitation)... think you (and the person who you invited) both get 250mb when the person you invited signs up!

According to HTC's Facebook page mate, Dropbox will be coming preinstalled on all our new Android phones. Bit of a raw deal for the existing loyal HTC customes out there.

Gutted mate... but, to be fair, I don't think it matters too much... I don't think that I need too much stuff on the go... think that I'll have enough space on my Dropbox account, for a while at least!!

It should work for everyone. OP, have you installed the Dropbox app?

It does say only new devices, but according to some of the comments left via the HTC UK announcement page, it works for older devices too.

How does Dropbox know we are on an HTC device. When I look at the Dropbox page, my phone is just identified as an Android.

Had seen this El P... it's nice ot know, but I'm not that bothered... like I said - I don't think I need to use that amount of space... if it lasted forever, then I'd do it... as it's only for 12 months (and my dropbox nowhere near full), I think I'll leave it!

Same here mate. But even a 2GB it's still a cracking app IMO.

Yeah... 2gb is great... not like I need to have that much on there anyway!

The additional 3GB on last 12 months? Not too good. After the 12 months is up, you probably will decide to pay for the extra storage if you actually used it.

If you stick a referral link in the sig of any forums you visit, you'll rack up the storage in no time. I'm sitting at 8.25GB at the moment.

That's what I'm trying to do... hopefully, I shouldn't be far behind you... that's another reason I'm not too bothered about an extra 3gb... don't really think I'll need much more than 8gb!!

I stuck a Minus link in there since the basic account is 10GB and every referral is 1GB extra for each of you - even better.

The referral link seems to work... well I got two people I do not know "join" but unfortunately, they did not install

Anyway, 4GB is enough for me (for now).

I have a basic question here. If anybody signs in from a ported (read HD2) ROM to Dropbox, will he be still awarded the extra 3 GB? I mean, there couldn't be any way to detect it as the ROM cooks are too clever!

So you mean a HD2 that's had a sense 3.5 android rom ported to it? I suspect it would still work, although I can't say for sure. Obviously the Desire HD is a closer match, but we don't have an official sense 3.5 rom of our own either.
