Help 3hours and 30 minutes and already 40% battery

Interesting idea. I guess the theory is to fool the battery into overcharging it, so that your battery is fuller than it normally would be. I'll give it a shot. I assumed 100% is the real 100%, but maybe it's not.

Yeah, I guess the weather app takes a pretty large toll. Maybe another thing I can do is put my phone in airplane mode when I hit the sack. But that pretty much would be like turning my phone off w/o having to deal w/ the long boot-up process. I don't care about receiving phone calls while I'm asleep.

I heard bump charging your phone like that is bad for the battery.

Has anyone removed the weather app after rooting to see if it makes all that much difference? I only took the VZW branded crap off and a few other things and I didn't notice much, if any, of an improvement.

The opposite of "bump charging" would be draining the battery all the way before recharging it, but I thought Li Ion batteries don't have battery memory, so partial discharge/recharge shouldn't affect battery performance.

I haven't rooted my phone ... yet.

Partial charges are fine. It pushing it beyond that threshold it sets for itself that isn't good. One thing I've noticed with batteries, however, is that nobody can provide a solid answer as to what is goo or bad for them or how they should be maintained. So just do whatever works for you :)

EDIT - removed the weather app yesterday and will see how well it works out

I didn't think it was possible to overcharge the phone. For example, I know when it's connected to the PC, a full charge takes a few hours. But I'll typically connect it overnight, put the PC in sleep mode (but it's still charging the phone) and let it run for ~7 hours or however long I sleep. I did that in the past w/ my previous phone and didn't notice any battery issues after 2 years, other than the normal wear and tear, where the battery didn't last as long in Month 24 as in Month 1.

I'll be curious to see how your lack of weather app affects your phone battery life.

I believe with Li-Ion batteries they stop themselves around 98% or so. Bump charging makes it hit 100%

Did you guys who applied the OTA patch find an improvement in battery life? I'm still running on the original firmware and today, my battery went from 100% to 30% in just 5.5 hours and I just did some texting, web surfing (total of 1 hour max of those 2 activities), and only had Wi-Fi on. Pretty ridiculous. I've got it on the USB charger now.

It definitely improved my battery life. I'm at 20% after 14 hours of moderate usage+A lot of music play. Whereas id probably be out of battery before. The memory is also a lot better. Before the lowest it would go would be around 60m and now its constantly 90m so the bloatware fix helped as well.

These are just my results and its only been 1 day so I'll let you know more about the battery situation.

Batteries are cheap and worth more than my frustration. I've also never heard of bump charging giving you 60% more battery time either though. I'm talking a night and day difference here. Perhaps I need a new phone to really "fix" the problem, but this little bump charge thing is finally giving me what I would consider acceptable battery life. VZW blew me off on the problem so I have little choice here.

What are your versions now? The version listed on the upgrade filename is the same exact version running on my stock phone now...and my phone is weeks old.

I just rooted my phone, so i'll let you guys know how freezing apps and deleting some bloatware effects battery life, but right now it says the system version is:

5.6.890.XT692.Verizon.en.US

however the file itself when downloaded says:

5.5.959.XT862.Verizon.en.US

so I don't know if it doesn't work because I have root anymore or what, but that's the best answer I can give you.

If you could provide an update in a couple days that would great!

I've noticed that once the phone recharges to 100% and sits there for a while, the battery count is reset to 0 hr 0 min 0 sec.. I wonder how long that "a while" has to be b/c sometimes, it doesn't reset to 0:00:00.

well I thought I would see what kind of standby time I got. I fully charged the battery friday night before bed and then took it off charge and put it on the nightstand. then I woke up saturday morning and used it a couple minutes and then threw it back on the charger even though it still said 100% because i was leaving for the day and wanted to start fully chaarged.

saturday and sunday I made a phone call or two. I have sent maybe 3 dozen text messages, checked data usage maybe 3 times with the verizon app. I used the google maps app and watched how well it worked for about 10 minutes of drive time

so occasional usage here and there. I accessed the internet some this morning.

as follows

droid 3 original battery
2d 10h 4m 42s on battery

cell standby 47%
phone idle 45%
voice calls 4%
display 3%

now at 20%

so thats 58 hours on 1 battery charge with mostly standby

i'm ok with that

lol maybe someday. i do have a flashlight app on it:D i also have a weather app on it all the time. i have the widget on one of the screens so i don't think that affects my battery all that much. its one of the ones that came with the phone.

i have power one agenda app and my life organized apps on it and running.

as far as the app killer i understand whats being said about services but that is not what i take this one to do....again it's the stock one that came with the phone.

it states it's task manager and it states that apps on this list auto end two minutes after phone goes to standby. that makes perfect sense to me. it states the app ends. not that it's stopping services that the app uses, it's stopping the app itself. that is what i want. so if i'm running for example my life organized and my phone lays long enough to go to standby then 2 minutes later the app stops.

seems to work perfect for me.

What is with this phones battery? Its horrible. I have juicedefender installed for today and it hasn't shown any improvements. I haven't used it much at all.

My top battery drains are cell standby with 30% and idle with 20%, display with 18% and android system with 15% and after that's there's like 3 apps with 2% each.. Is there something I'm missing?

Update to 5.6.890. The battery life after i updated is unreal!:)

I charged my battery via a laptop today all the way to 100%. Then I unplugged it from the laptop and used an online radio app (iheartradio) and listened to music for a while. The battery started draining. In the background, I also had ESPN Score Center running. I drained it all the way down to 50% in just over 100 min. I also did a little texting during that time. I didn't make/receive any phone calls. Does that sound right? The battery sure is a hog! :(

Online radio and music apps mixed together can use a good sum of battery so that could be the culprit.

Perhaps, but that much more?

Today, I didn't use any online music apps. I just used my phone normally, which means some texting, a little surfing, and a few non-intensive games. I made/received less than 10 min. of phone calls. Yet I got my battery from 100% to 10% in 14 hours. Typical day and typical result. I've got it on the charger now.

14 hours seems like pretty big battery life to me, that's what I'm getting with the extended battery. So if that's just stock I'm jealous.

You can always try another music player. The more songs you skip the more battery extensive it is.

My old phones would give me several days on a single charge. This phone gives me half a day. Sure, I'm using the phone more (non-voice-wise) than previous phones, but the battery is rated to be much bigger than my past phones. Oh well, the firmware update apparently addresses the crappy battery, but I haven't applied it yet.
